Anyone interested in a KDS-15 in NY

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

Hear! Hear, Neptune Bob!

Well Said, Neptune Bob. That 15 will probably live forever.
My mom got her first Dishwasher in 1967 and it was that same exact machine in Edged Coppertone. I ran well into the 1990's when the person I sold it to got rid of it to by a KUDS24 whirlpool based Kitchenaid. She put it out to the curb and it was still in running condition.

You won't be able to get new panels for it as they had been obsoleted in the late 70's. You can have the current ones painted or of yu go to a good metal shop, you may be able to get corner pieces to attach to these panels which will allow you to add custom panels to match the cabinets to.

I loved that machine but in today's day and age with multiple washarms, it is still very critical how that 15 is loaded if you really want to get everything clean on the top rack. Dishes on the bottom and pans, pots and deep bowls on the top.
The pump will definitely get the water up there but it has to have a clear path to do it! That was the only drawback with that machine. But Hey, the whole cycle is like 45 minutes so what would be so bad about rewashing the stuff that didnt come clean. Use the Utility and Utensil cycle and its done in about a half hour!(that cycle only has a 5 minute dry time)

oops!

I forgot that the machine above had the trim kit already! Therefore, you can get your panels made up for it to match your cabinets or there may even be primed metal panels behind the wood panels already installed on it since the trim pieces screwed into those factory panels. You got to remove the wood ones to be sure!

KA ran it's last load this morning.

There is no doubt it's a good machine for its time. I know my next one won't last a fraction of the time. With energy and water costs going up constantly how much more does it cost to run? It does sound like a freight train running through my kitchen. Like the above poster said if you put a large pot on the bottom rack the glasses on top are still dirty. Rewashing dishes gets old pretty fast with a family of 4. These are the reasons why I'm upgrading and why I'm here offering it to you guys.

My husband installed the new DW this morning and will be harassing me about what to do with the KA. If someone is interested please let me know now.

If we don't take it .....

Do as we did, I set up a counter in the basement and placed a cheap dishwasher down there. It's good to have when entertaining for extra dishes and also, we have use that dishwasher for things like car parts (just don't tell the whole family about that) and parts of the barbeque grill. You will find that sometimes it's nice to have a "beater" dishwasher, just as some people have extra old "beater" cars.

You can't say I didn't try.

I guess no one is interested? It's up for grabs for another week, then it's gone.

Where is SteveD (in Albany) when ya need him. OK You New Yorkers, someone get this. I don't wanna heqar anyone b**ch about no vintage dishwashers when this is there waiting!!

What about shipping and freight to wherever?

Being someone who has seen many dream machines over-the-hill and far-away out of reach, does anyone who want this baby know of freight charges and so on to ship it? Its not a full-blown washer, weighing several hundred pounds-- is it that expensive to ship if its lighter and less bulky?

I have the exact same model, same panels, everything. Some... lets say, 'non appreciative' 20-something kid pitched it to the curb and i snatched it up. That one in NY is in much better shape, no visible cracking in the exterior wood like mine has, very, very good looking unit-- is there a Mother Teresa or maybe Mother Maytag, Clara KitchenAid, Saint of all Forgotten Dishwashers anymore?? We need a miracle-- SOMEBODY go for the hash! (not the crusher!)

This is a great dishwasher!
I can't get over that no one is going after this!
Replace your newer dishwasher with this one, and save it for a back up! You will be glad you did!
I just can't get over that no one has jumped on the chance to have this fantastic Hobart Kitchenaid!

My goodness, someone take, don't make her into tin cans

My Grandma Aletha had one like this in Coppertone that she bought new because it was good, the very best there is,top of the range, best in the world, Granpa bought it for her.. My mother on the other hand bought a dishwasher because it was quiet, against the advise of her mother-in law, my Grandma.Well, i have to say this, the reason it was so quiet, my mothers dishwasher, she bought in 1966 was that it never worked! Grandma's KitchenAid outlasted her, it was used alot, we, the family was always over there, Grandma cooked and canned all of the tiime.9-10 years from now, when Robert, and everyone else still has there vintage machines of all different sorts, possibly including this one to a lucky someone, you will be replacing your quiet dishwasher and kicking yourself,-----steps off of the soapbpox and runs stage left<---------------------------------<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<-------------------:)

Dear Jessica:

I want to thank you for doing everything that could possibly be done to save a vintage appliance. As you can see, considerations of distance kept some of us from availing ourselves of your very generous offer, but no one can possibly say that YOU didn't do everything in your power to save the unit.

I wish there were more people like you in this world. Many thanks, and I hope your new unit works out well for you.

My sister put her old Superba out on the curb recently. I urged her to put it on craig's list but she didn't want to be bothered. She put the machine out for the garbage company to pick up, but it was gone before they came. So I'm hoping somebody recognized it for what it was and saved it. I know if the garbage company had picked it up, it would have gone to the crusher for sure. Maybe the beautiful machine that has been the subject of this thread also was snagged by someone who knows a great freebie when they see one.
