I remember a vintage 1960's commercial with a "giant in your washer". A giant's hand comes out of the washer holding a laundry detergent box. Does anyone remember the product name? Is there any place to see a picture/video of the product?

I'm annotating an Allan Sherman song, Chim Chim Cheree at http://pattinson.net/wjp/sherman/index.htm and cannot remember this product.

Thanks
Walt

Ajax Laundry Detergent

The Jingle was "Ajax Laundry Detergent is stronger than dirt". And yes there was a big strong arm, and big fist that came out of the washer. I always thought that kind of had nasty connotations. Might just be me. Tee Hee.

Right Company, Wrong Product

Yes, it was a Colgate-Palmolive product, but it wasn't Ajax laundry detergent (it had the White Knight using his power to clean dirty clothes). It was Action Bleach. Chlorine powder in single-use packets, much like the detergent pods of today. Action commercials showed the giant hand coming out of the washer. My mother was devoted to Action (although I did the family wash each week). It was rare to have a box of Action WITHOUT at least one or two broken packets. Ah, my commercial trivia mind--still alive after 60 years!

I'll second the "Action" response.  I remember perceiving that big forearm as somewhat threatening, which was likely the intent -- if you happened to be a stained shirt or whatever.

That's the one!!!! And thanks for the video link -- it's exactly what I needed.

I'll be updating the song link shortly...

Thanks all!
