Anyone used Asterisk (PBX?)

Has anyone out there successfully configured an Asterisk PBX system? I've been beating my head against one at work and nothing makes any damned sense to me. I must be missing something very basic.

I can set up an extension, but for the life of me I can't figure out how to tell it which phone to assign that extension. I'm using AsteriskNOW.
