Hi everyone. I know I posted twice in the past about the old man with the appliance parts shop in PA. As it turns out, he passed away about 2 weeks ago. I recently drove by the store and saw a HUGE dumpster in front of the shop. I was concerned and stopped to notice alot of the stuff had been removed and moved around after having not been disturbed or years. The next day I drove back after work and saw a woman coming out of the house behind. I asked about Andy the owner and she said he had passed after a long battle with cancer. He was her Father. I offered my condolances and then told her that I had been in touch with him a few times and how nice he had been on his good days. I told her about the club and the treasure trove they had there. They were simply throwing most of it away. When I mentioned there was stuff that some of us could use she said to come back and talk to her brothers the next morning. I did and they were surprised to learn anyonne would want the stuff. We talked afor a little bit and they gave me a few old repair manuals that i will show you all later. (Thor, Maytag, and Speed Queen - so cool)

They will be cleaning out the shop all week and if anyone wants to come up and get some stuff or wants me to inquire for you - PLEASE DO SO NOW! They are very nice and very helpful - not interrested in making a ton of money but something is better than nothing for them at this point. They pretty much just want you to make an offer. Please either email me a list of things or i can put you in touch with them directly. I'd love it if any of you would like to come up and "shop" the place. The sons are willing to dig out whatever you need. Just respect their need to get this done ASAP and do it NOW. So take your inventory and see wat you might like to have - either come on up to PA or let me know. Its a GOLD MINE and its there for us if we want it or else it all goes to the dump and the scrap yard.

I'm going back tomorrow afternoon since its my day off and i'd like to have a few things to ask for from you guys. So please let me know!

Thanks and I look forward to hearing from you!
Matthew

Hoover Twin Tub

Anything to do with Hoover TTs.
Vintage ironers, irons etc.

Why not make them an offer to haul entire contents away? Am sure a few group members would be happy to assist/pony up and then everything can be sorted out later.

Oh yes, there was a gorgeous maroon Whirlpool compact washer, what happened to that machine?

Please give my deepest condolences to the family, am sorry to hear about their loss. But as I predicted, once the man died his family would probably chuck most of the stuff in the rubbish bin.

Times a wasting Speedy!

Lord have mercy!

Sorry about the fellow's passing. Always hard to lose a family member.

Of course, everybody is always interested in anything Frigidaire.

And now Maytag, being as some parts are already NLA.

Can't think of anything specific, and I don't have parts lists anyway. Just anything/everything in general.

Hi Matt,

I'm sorry to hear of Andy's passing, and I hope that all of those wonderful treasures I saw in the pictures won't be thrown out before anyone can reach it.

I noticed a lot of Hoover stuff in one picture...would definitely be interested in that. And of course anything Frigidaire! Maytag stuff would certainly come in handy as well; Glenn needs that 2-speed motor!

Clarification

When I said "Hoover stuff", I was referring to all of the Hoover vacuum-related items I saw in your pictures. I hope none of that gets thrown out as it wouldn't be difficult to ship and I'd love to save it.

Please keep us posted.

Wow. Sorry to hear about the owner, but thanks for keeping a

Dibs on any parts for old Hotpoint Coaxial transmission washers: (Spiral agitator, filter pan, tub gaskets, xmission parts, gears, seals, timers, etc..) Also need some mid 60's Kenmore washer & dryer parts.

I have a nice solid tub Speed Queen (& early SQ gas dryer) down in Pittsburgh that I'd be willing to trade for some help with parts, if anyone is interested.

Is there any inventory record for this place?

Thanks, Joe.

No inventory records

its a pile of "stuff" to these guys and unless you are specific as to what you might want its all gonna go.

I can't say 60's kenmore parts - thats a needle in a haystack- i need to know what you are looking for exactly and ten i can go from there and let you know whats available.

Money Talks, BS Walks

It's time to separate the men from the boys, *LOL*.

How about we set up a club pot and give GEExtraRinse authority to deal with the owners and just take the whole lot away? Providing GE is interested of course. Then like the infamous Frigidaire auction items could be taken away, cataloged, and then we shall know what is what. Members who contributed to the pot could then have their pick, with perhaps unwanted/needed items being put up for auction/sale to help GE recover any costs, or maybe held for future club sales.

Thoughts?

Thats what I'm thinking too.

but i don't have anwhere to put this stuff. My parents are kind enough to put up with my wahers and parts everywhere - but if i were to do this i'd have to rent a storage unit and sort it out myself - i simply don't have time - I just want these guys to see that there is good need for the stuff and get them some money for what otherwise they are ready to throw away. We all can benefit from this stuff and if i make it worth their while - they will be more likely to hang onto somethings instead of just dumping them all.

Come on guys - I'm sure you all need a few extra parts to have on hand. Timers (they have TONS), water valves, belts, console lights, special hoses, etc, etc, etc..

So please get back to me so i can call him tomorrow with a bit of a list. I've barely heard from anyone!

Wilkes Barre

I need a control panel for a Maytag A107, I think they are all universal(except for color) until you get to the pushbutton only 900 model. Thanks, Phil

Just in case anyone has forgotten what the a treasure trove the store was, here is a link back to the original post. As one can see from the pictures, there is gold in dem dar hills.

Now, GEExtraRinse; are any of the appliances/machines/vacuums still in the store? Really liked that Whirlpool washer, and the Electrolux vacuum

Matthew

I sent you an email.
I would just like to say to the group that I live pretty close to Matthew (about an hour drive north for me). Although I am not in a position to help financially obtain these parts and/or machines for anyone, I can help with storage of parts if anyone would need it. I don't have a truck, I have a dodge durango, so I doubt I can get a whole machine in there. BUT, I am most willing to help out any way that I can. I am afraid I will be useless when it comes to identifying parts, but I can help catalog physically, for recording purposes. I am offering any help necessary to get parts to people who want/need them. I have a garage with a full loft that can be used to store parts until they can be shipped or picked up. There will be no weather damage (short of a total loss on my entire garage per natural disaster or something!!) and they will not be tampered with.
So, if anyone thinks I may be of some use to them in this endeavor, please send me an email or respond via this site.

Wilkes Barre Repair Shop

How about scheduling an impromtu parts party? A "dry" wash-in there if the relatives agree and we could buy cool parts and donate proceeds to them for the use of the place and to show the value that this man has provided to classic collectors? Someone would have to be in charge of pricing, very simple standards like all lint filters are 3 bucks, all agitators are 5, motors 10, but simple. We could call it the fall parts harvest. Phil

I would be interested in some parts....

Hi Guys,

I read this thread with great interest: When you guys have sorted out who/how parts are going to be bought, i was wondering if any of you would be kind enough to get me a couple of parts: I would be more than happy to send some money across for the cost of the parts and freight.

I am mainly interested in the lint filters in the attached pics for the Maytag machines: I'm VERY interested in the chrome lint filter on the black agitator and also the chrome highlighted filter on the turquoise agitator.

If any of you would be kind enough to look out for me, I would be very grateful. You can email me at [email protected] or leave a message on this thread.

Cheers
Leon
