apt size wash and dry your opinion?

Im moving into an upstairs apartment and have a good sized kitchen, I want to buy an apartment size washer and dryer...you know something I could hook up to the sink and to a regular plug, any suggestions? what do you recomoned in both new day and yesterday?

as a portable washer dryer in the vintage category i would try to fine on craiglist or or classified ad of your local news paper a whirlpool portable washer dryer set like this or kenmore here is a pic the picture will be of canadien inglis model but it will give you a hint

LG makes a nice 24inch wide all in one front loading combo. The also make a 27"model. Both have condenser drying and 1400 RPM spins.

Whirlpool "Compact" W&D, also sold under "Kenmore" brand as well.

For through cleaning and rinsing you cannot beat the vintage Whirlpool "Surgilator" beater. Older units had a slightly faster final spin speed than modern units so things emerge a bit dryer.

The portable dryer hasn't changed much over the years but are true work horses. IIRC wattage is <1500 or so but will get the job done long as one is careful about loading. To speed drying times you might look into getting a stand alone spin dryer.

Piere, there is a portability kit for the 24" front loaders. It has the casters that can be retracted and the unicouple device. You have to hook up only the cold water intake and set the temperature of the incoming water manually at the faucet. Similar to a portable /convertible dishwasher. It has to be special ordered.

I have

a GE set of portables that are great. They are more money than the Kenmore/Whirlpool models but they are bigger. I replaced my Kenmore's with these GE's. The washer has the water saver available that is supposed to only use as much water as the load requires but it does not use enough water to get clothes clean so I keep it turned off. It does fill to the top for both wash and rinse. It is a one speed and the agitation speed may not be as fast as it could be. The dryer is 110 with auto dry. I bought the stack stand so they take up little room. They are positioned so that I can vent the dryer out the stove vent and don't have a lint/moisture problem with no vent drying. Mine are over 5 years old and have had no problems as yet. Now I use my wringers as daily drivers and only use the GE to spin out the water that the wringers leave. Just my thoughts.
