I have been waiting for what seems like months for this detergent to arrive on the UK supermarket shelves. I just LOVE when a new product comes on the market!

Picked up a tub of the pods this morning from Asda. They are NOT cheap....launch price is £9.98 for 30 washes. I dread to think what the full price will be. Anyway, haven't had a chance to test them out on a really dirty wash as I did 4 loads yesterday as I knew the weather forecast was good today. Did a small load of worn once joggers and t shirts on a quick 40deg wash. The pod took about 4 minutes to dissolve completely and created a fair amount of suds, three rinses were a must. I did a small load of towels ( 5 bath towels and 2 face cloths ) on a short cottons 60 wash. This load got very sudsy but thankfully did not suds lock and rinsed ok.

The pods have a nice scent...not too over powering or floral...the only way I can describe the smell is detergenty!

I will report back once I've done a dirty test load, hubby's cycling gear is always a good test as he constantly seems to get covered in bike oil!!

Here is a picture of the pods. I am lead to believe the ingredients are exactly the same as Tide pods, apparently they even smell the same according to Thomas from Brazil, the only difference is the colour of the liquids.

Once My Current Stash of Super Croix Is Gone

Am off pods. You just cannot vary dosage with the things can you? Well with the pure liquid only version it tis possible to snip off one end and squeeze out what is required, but who wants to go through that at each wash. These new type pods because there are three different "layers" of chemicals cannot go that way as it isn't possible to ensure proper dosage of all.

Picked up some regular and colour Ariel Pods today - about to give them a whirl! Noticed they had new Ariel, Bold and Daz liquids too. The Daz one comes in a Lenor style bottle for some reason. Ariel and Bold are now more concentrated than the old same size bottles and Ariel liquid has the new logo design too, like the pods.

I got some Tide pods in the US last year, they do look exactly the same.

Are these not the same as what we already have Ariel Excel Gel liquid-tabs? What's the difference? Not been launched in my area yet.

Hi there,

they are different as they are a three compartment pod. Cleaning ingredients are hard to keep stable when mixed in a solution, the theory is that the ingredients are kept separate in the chambers keeping them stable enabling a more potent cocktail of ingredients to be used.

They're basically just an updated version of liquitabs with two swirly bits on top and slightly smaller. Asda had the old ones on clearance for the last few weeks.

I am pleased they are making detergents more concentrated as hate waste and paying for fillers. Have to try these out when I see them.

Well,

I've been using the pods for a week and am impressed. They certainly out clean Ariel liquitabs and gel. They removed bike oil from hubby's cycling gear without pre treating. I have tried them on a few different cycles, even on the express wash. They do get sudsy but the third rinse is always clear.Tried them on a load of whites just to see how they performed, everything was really clean but to my eye the laundry just didn't look as good as when washed in powder with oxygen bleach.

Also bought some of the new Ariel Clean and Compact liquid as it was on sale in Tesco. Have only used that on lightly soiled loads so far, nice to see it does not have an over powering scent. It does not get as sudsy and rinses out very well.

I haven't seen the pods on sale in Ireland yet, although they're clearing all the liquitabs at low prices, so I assume that's to clear stock before pushing the new pods to the retailers.

It could just be my local supermarkets have a lot of warehoused stock, don't know but as yet I haven't seen any yet.

The rebranded liquid is out though and I tried it and it worked well but, much like the previous edition, it doesn't flush out of the liquid dispenser on the drawer of the machine as well is Persil S&M and I hate using those noisy dosing devices that clang around in the drum of my otherwise silent machine.

The scent was ok though, not too pungent.

Mrx

I don't use the Ariel dosing device as it makes such a noise! I have an old Persil dosing ball I use instead.

Sounds like your supermarkets are doing the same as ours did having the liquitabs on sale. Our Sainsbury's is the only supermarket that doesn't have the 3in1 pods or the new Persil Small and Mighty. They do have the old 54 wash bottles on sale at £6 though.

I think I saw clean and compact colour is Tesco, they didn't have any is Asda. Tesco is the better bet for the clean and compact anyway as it's only £4 for 27 washes, in Asda it's over £6. Asda to have the new colour Small and Mighty for a fiver.

Relenting just once from my self-imposed detergent buying ban, I bought a small box myself, and have to say I am impressed at the performance compared to the standard of the previous liquitabs.  They clean well, rinse brilliantly and don't smell too offensive either.  I have noticed (especially with the Electron that only spins after the 2nd rinse), that it can be frothy until the load is spun, but once the load has been spun all the suds almost disappear - the first rinse on the Miele will have a few suds, and the subsequent rinses even fewer.

On a different topic, I've noticed a lot of people saying about the dispenser balls making noise- to be quite frank I hardly notice it, nor does it really bother me, it's no louder than zips or buttons tumbling around in the drum.

To my surprise the Ariel 'Colour and Style' 3in1 pods contain optical brighteners! Anyone else noticed this but the liquids don't apart from regular Ariel. Yet I was told by Ariel that you shouldn't use optical brighteners on coloured clothing as it fades them. Do you think they say this to deliberately make consumers buy another product?

OBAs don't fade clothes. They do quite the opposite actually and give them a zinging brightness that may be unwelcome for some items, but for most things it keeps them looking brighter. They're basically a fluorescent dye that absorb UV light and re-emit it as visible light. So, your clothes litterally glow!

It's really a matter of personal taste.

OBAs can cause allergic reactions sometimes although the ones used in detergents are well tried and tested at this stage.

I would still reckon that most people who have reactions to detergent are probably reacting to the OBAs, fragrances or other ingredients like that rather than enzymes.

OBA's

Normal laundering will fade colours especially if you have highly chlorinated water. I think it was Laundress who mentioned when Cheer (designed for washing colours) came out in the USA it had a small amount of oxygen bleach in it as this cancelled out the action of the chlorine in the water.

i'm going to pick some up tonight as they're half price at tesco,i'll most likely get a febreze and a colour & style,i'm not brave enough to wash darks in regular pods lol
