After much hemming and hawing, Mrs. Volvoman and I bit the bullet and purchased “Ariel Multi”.
Here are our initial impressions so far…
1: This is a big box. According to Procter & Gamble website, it should be able to provide us with 95 loads of laundry.
2: In typical P&G fashion, the measuring scoop is huge. I guess this is fine if you have an old-school top load, washing machine, or use a commercial laundromat. I definitely would not use an entire scoop for an HE machine.
3: Appearance-wise, standard P&G detergent powder; white with blue specks.
4: Scent? Again, this is a P&G product we are talking about. It is strong. Bringing it home from the store, we could smell it wafting from the trunk into the interior of our car. But it is not a bad smell. This is not like those sickly sweet fragrances that P&G is trying to foist upon us. It is a “sharp“ fragrance – Mrs. V said there was a “minty” undertone to it. I thought it smelled like a mix of early 90s Oxydol with current-day Cheer powder. And yes, there is definitely a mint undertone to it. There is definitely nothing else like it in the current Tide/Gain powder stable. It’s very much a classic “detergent” scent.
5: Sudsing? Moderate. There was definitely some suds forming in the washing machine and this was using cold water. I would not trust using it with hot water in a front load or HE machine.
No idea about cleaning power just yet. I’ll post an update later today, as I had a shirt in that wash with a grease stain on it (Mrs. V will state that my shirts eat better than she does…).
