Last night there was cause to use my 1940s vintage Art Beck baster, and I discovered that the rubber bulb had hardened and rendered the thing inoperable.

My on-line search for a replacement bulb turned up only complete basters with original bulbs.

Is there any sort of standardization on these items?  I thought I had a "Tupper" baster somewhere with a pliable bulb, but can't find it for comparison.  I may have gotten rid of it, considering how seldom I use a baster.

Any advice would be appreciated.

I hate to say it...

Rich bought me a good one years ago... stainless steel, good rubber, the whole shebang. After maybe a year the bulb loosened to where I had to put a rubber band around the join so it would keep suction.

I bought one at Dollar Tree ($1) near Thanksgiving and it's worked fine the 4-5x I've used it, and it goes in the dishwasher each time.

Thanks for the reply, Chuck.

I've been looking on line but will check Dollar Tree too.  I'll buy a cheap one and if the bulb fits on the Pyrex, I'll keep the Art Beck.  If not, I'll keep the tube it came in to store the new one.

My mom had an Art Beck baster and always kept it in its tube.  I don't know what happened to it.  It's been gone for so long that I doubt the bulb failed, so maybe the Pyrex part broke.
