Aluminum silicate compounds may prove to be a major long-term health hazard. The jury is still out on exactly how toxic these compounds are, but I suspect the epidemic levels of diseases like Parkinsons and Alzheimers in the U.S., and our widespread use of these chemicals (in everything from laundry detergent to makeup to non-dairy coffee creamer) is not coincidental.

I am glad to hear that that has not yet been proven. My mother is constantly yelling at me for using my old Club and Wear-Ever aluminum cookware because she insists that it causes Alzheimers. My Grandmother has always used almost exclusively and is still sharp as a tack at 73 yrs old.

Also just to mention Alzheimers has a lot to do with genetics so excess aluminum is probably not likley.

As for Parkinsons, not long ago I had a directed resading for CE credits in my ASRT book about Parkinsons, and it states that it is most likley caused from genetics and enviromental toxins like pesticides, some of the risk factors are advanced age, family hx, exposure to pesticides and other toxins, working on a farm, drinking well water, and low estrogen levels.

The verdict on aluminum and Alzheimer's is till out, but there are some concerns. One, pure aluminum has never occurred in nature because it's so reactive. So, while it's an abundant element in the earth's crust, it's only until man figured out how to separate it from other elements that the pure metal could be created. And that was only about 150 years ago.

Second, some aluminum compounds may be safer than others. I suspect that any aluminum that is leached off cookware and into food is relatively small in amount, and the resultant compounds are already non-reactive. I'd be more concerned about the aluminum used in some antacid tablets and in some baking powders.
