Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

The red handle had become misshapen too over the years. Heat, and with the quality of plastics they had back then - they do not survive well. It was necessary to reshape the handle by sanding it. Through several successive ever-finer grits, I got the shine to come back up. Finally then, polished with Maas metal polish. This handle was not Bakelite - but I love working with Bakelite. You can get it to come right back to it's original shine. Catalin too.

I might add, the Aluminum nameplate/mixing guide - I polished that as well. You can do it if you are quick, and use a product with less-powerful solvents. If you work it too long, you risk dissolving the paint. It worked well this time, and the aluminum came back quite shiny.

Awesome!

Okay, I'll bite, of what did you manufacture the beater ejector? It looks, well, perfect.

How I wish I had your skill!

Keith,

Anytime I need to make a part out of "plastic" I use PC-7 Epoxy. It retains it's shape when I form it into the object resembling the part. I let it cure for 24 hours, then sand/file away at it to shape into what I want it to look like. Inevitably, there are tiny voids in it so I fill those with automotive spot putty and sand again just before painting. I try to use lacquer then. It dries hard and can be wet sanded then polished back up to a gloss.

I've used PC-7 since at least 1970. It hasn't changed a bit. Not even the can it comes in.

Oooh, thanks!

Rick, thanks for that link. I'ma get me some of that! By the way, isn't it time for a coffee maker thread? Think about it.
