Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

Like everyone else has said, THANK YOU!! You have done an amazing job with this website.

While I have found quite a few machines, because of this site, the important thing is the friendships I have because of this site. I have met people from all over this country, from Signal Hill, California to Beltsville, Maryland. I have even met a few from other countries. I also look back onto some of the members who have since passed on, that I was fortunate enough to know and be friends with. All of that because of this site and Robert's dedication to this site. So again, from the bottom of my heart, Thank you Robert.

Thank you all so much for you're super kind comments. I still have mixed feelings about all this but I know deep in my heart I can't keep doing this forever and now that I'm retired from both my corporate day job and running the sites, I will be able to travel without having to schlep multiple laptop computers with me and when I know the sites will be backed up and cared for with great care.

But I'm not retiring from doing washer stuff to say the least, this will give me even more time to do even more fun things with my collection.

I also want to remake my "The Washers we Love and More" video in 2025 high resolution. Something I'll be working on later on this year. You can be sure I'll post it here when it's completed.

Many thanks

Robert thank you for all you have done here, from myself having repaired my washer with the aid of the

knowledge you and the people here have shared, to the preservation of history, the environmental benefits

of repair and reuse, and the shared camaraderie and laughs along the way, enjoy your well earned retirement.

Wow, this hit me a lot harder than I thought it would...

I guess it’s because it’s the end of an era. You were the heart of this site for a long time, since before I was even born. I’m glad that you found a company that you trust to carry on with running the site. I don’t know what I’d do without it. The knowledge and resources available here have allowed me to successfully complete projects that I could have only dreamed about when I first joined this site back in 2019. Since then, I have gone from a collection consisting of a food processor and a blender, to a collection that could just about outfit an entire house with vintage appliances. As others have said, this site has been life changing. So thank you for everything you’ve done to keep it going for the last 24 years. I hope your retirement is everything you’ve ever dreamed of.
Thanks,
Thatwasherguy.

Dear Robert,

I happened upon this site while searching on line for full-size front-loading washer reviews after yet another belt replacement was needed on our '97 Amana TL.  I didn't hesitate to join, and one of the big reasons in addition to its content was your impeccable work on navigational design.  I have not seen an easier to use or more intuitive navigation on any other web site before or since.  You are a true master at what you do.

It was a pleasure to meet you at Kevin's wash-in back in 2012.  It's hard to believe that it's been 13 years since then.  Congratulations on your decision to retire!  Life is short and you deserve the freedom to do what you want, when you want, without the specter of a technical emergency presenting an unexpected detour.

Thank you so much for creating this site, which has provided a wealth of information on automatic washers old and new, along with enlightening machinery-related posts on everything from automobiles to agitator caps.

Now go have some fun!

Hugs,

Ralph

Robert, I cannot express my gratitude for all the joy and education the creation of the various versions of the web site have provided me all the way back long before the 2001 Wash-in. I know you'll sill be around some, maybe even impart some of your own knowledge too. Bob

Are you staying in Mpls or heading to sunny PS ?

Hi Pete, no I've decided I like living in Minneapolis too much to make such a major move, especially to a place that doesn't have basements. What I've done for the past few years is to become a snow bird, Spring-Summer-Fall in Minneapolis and Winter in Fort Lauderdale beach near relatives of mine. It's like getting the best of both worlds and I've really been enjoying that.

Are you staying in Mpls or heading to sunny PS ?

Hi Pete, no

That's a shame!  It would have been great to see you down here in Palm Springs.  We may not have basements but could you be tempted by the fact that many homes here do have casitas?!  😁  Congratulations on your retirement.  It does sound like a great balance to spend 9 months of the year in Minneapolis when MN is at its best and then escape the winter.  I wish you all the best and hope you enjoy your free time to travel and do all the things you love.

Thanks for all you've done,

Mark

Robert, I am so sorry to hear of your retiring from AWO. I soo love what you have grown this site to be, but you are not going anywhere so we will still get to see you and your wonderful projects.

Enjoy your retirement and have some fun! Hopefully we can run into each other again like we did in Lauderdale in 2016.

Robert, what I wondering is if the terms of membership including upgrading and the rates of will be the same...

I've actually been a member for going on fifteen years (December 8, 2008) and I think I must have been curious about a certain appliance as in as far as a range or stove...

So thank you again for this being such a fun, educational and informative site... I think right down to Caloric gas ranges if that's what my search leading me here actually was...

Hopefully rates and lengths of an upgraded tenure as well as the membership features will be the same, if not improved and upgrading it not, offer the same or more...

Thank you again, Rob...

Reply #46 Dave, I supported both sides, AW and Vacuumland. My paid membership on Vacuumland expires on September 1 and AW in 76 days. Right now, my Vacuumland says I have Premium Upgrade and I see all kinds of ads which are quite annoying. The Premium Upgrade shows only one option and it's $29.99 for a year. Which is the going rate for most Websites I have seen. I don't see the vac of the day picture anymore, the pictures are all there in a folder. There are other section, which I have not investigated yet. I compare it to getting a new car, you have to sit in the driveway and check everything out.

Well, Robert, it doesn't seem like 25 years... but we all appreciate every second of hard work you put into establishing and maintaining this website. Truly a labor of love, and you have made this such a wealth of useful and fun information, there isn't much more I can add to what has already been said concerning all our thanks and great appreciation for everything. Wishing you the best in retirement, another exciting chapter of life!!! It can be an adjustment, but it doesn't take long to acclimate and find your new path forward. One thing's for sure, as I found out, you will be busy!

Robert

you're a mensch! Can't thank you enough for your "IT" technical knowledge, selflessness and making possible the years of memorialized stories and learnings from you and everyone contributing on this site.

When in Lauderdale, look me up, just 12 miles up I-95.

All the best......Leslie

Robert, I'm approaching this with a bit of trepidation - I knew this day was coming - just sooner than I expected. I  hope you find retirement enjoyable. You deserve it after putting up with all of us for so many years.  Well done!

There aren't enough words to express my gratitude and appreciation for you and this awesome site. I don't post very often but I check in daily and read the latest posts, follow up on posts that grab my attention, and view the POD! You've done a great job and your efforts have not gone un-noticed. I hope you are as happy in your retirement as I have been in mine (officially retired 1 year ago today!) God bless

Sam

Robert,
Best wishes on your retirement. I still remember when you were on the cover of one of the Gay rags back in the mid 80s. That showed me that I was not alone with my own obsession of washing machines. When I stumbled onto the website, when I was working, I got to read and learn much from the forums. I especially enjoyed the Pic of the day, and made my coworkers crays with that...LOL

Wishing you the best in you endeavors and that you for sharing your knowledge.

Best of luck
