At one time, my computer used to change from black to blue when a clickable link had been viewed. As far as I know, no settings were changed purposely. I may have cleaned out my cache, cookies, and temporary files. Even so, newly visited sites should still(in theory) be visible/indicated as they were in the past. Any idea what is going on???

Thanks,

-GS

What color a link shows up as before clicking on it and after clicking on it can be controlled by the person who created the web site.
Check another website, preferrably one you haven't visited before. Any changes?

All the websites do the same. If I look at something on Ebay, then go back, it used to be a different color stating that I already looked at it. Now, it goes back to being all one color. To me, it was a way of indicating where I already visited. Must be something easy to remedy, just have to find the right 'click'.

I dunno.. After Windows vista blew up the hard drive on my 2 month old toshiba, and i had to get a Compaq with Vista Premimu... Argh

Hi Gary,

What browser are you currently using; I'm assuming IE 7.0? Have you changed any settings recently? Usually clearing the history, cookies, and temporary files resets all purple links to blue, but I've never heard of this. Of course I'm using Firefox which is much better (and more secure)...

Tools / Internet Options

General tab

Days To Keep Pages In History is set at ... what?

Also, Colors button. What colors are set in the Links section for Visited and Unvisited? (The setting here probably only comes into play if the web designer doesn't already have a color scheme defined.)

Also, Accessibility button. Do you have any of the Formatting options enabled?

Visited is in Blue. Unvisited is in black

Accessibility button?
What formatting options should not be enabled?

Thanks

or...

and this is an off the wall thought....if you changed the cookie setting to refuse all cookies, every site would most likely remain "unvisited". Just another idea for you. Though I too recommend downloading Firefox. If however you aren't going to do that do download IE7.

Is set on medium.

Where do I change the setting to refuse all cookies?

The strange part is that the items visited remain in blue. When I go back to turn on the computer, they first appear in blue, then, the go back to black. Strange!

This is normal, when you visited a page it should be in that default color blue,
when you go back to that page, it should change to black or whatever color you have set.
When that page is refreshed and changes has been made to that page, it will update back to blue,
otherwise it should stay black if no changes has been made.

Now for proper settings, in your INTERNET OPTIONS, your Secutity setting should be set to (all default) for security reasons.
{internet, loacal internet, trusted sites, restricted sites}

As for your browser history, (Internet temp files) they should be set between 50-150.
By doing so, web pages will load faster that is saved on your hard drive.

I am a advocate for being totally spy ware free by using several spy ware removal tools to keep my system optimized for peak performance.

Ad-Aware SE Personal Edition 1.06 (Lavasoft)

Spybot - Search & Destroy 1.4 (PepiMK Software)

These are free and what one doesn't catch, the other one will!
Just don't run both at the same time.

There are other tweaks secrets to share to get Windows humming without a glitch but at a later date.......
