Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

I've just added some new code to our Discuss-o-Mat program. Now when you click on "Create A New Thread" in any one of the three forums, a screen will pop up first that asks you to click on a list of possible topic choices for your new message. As of right now the choices are:

Automatic Washers or Dryers made before 1986
Automatic Washers or Dryers made after 1985 or brand new Washers and/or Dryers
Automatic Dishwasher Washers made before 1986
Automatic Dishwashers made after 1985 or brand new Automatic Dishwashers
Twin-tub Washers
Wringer Washers
Ironers, Mangles or Iron Related Products
Ranges, Stoves or Ovens
Refrigerators or Air Conditioners
Vacuum Cleaners
Small Appliances
Other Non-Appliance Related Topic

I can always add some more topic choices if necessary. Anyway when you click on a choice and select the new "Continue" button the system will automatically decided whether the post belongs in the Imperial, Deluxe or Super forum. Hopefully this will save me work in having to move around threads that ended up in wrong forum.

Since the code change involved quite a bit of new programming, everyone please be on the lookout for new bugs. If you find something is off or looks strange, please post it in this thread.

Thanks everyone.

Wow-

Nice bit of programming, Robert.

I think it will enhance the experience of Discuss-O-Mat a great deal.

Thank you for all you do for us here on the wild wild web.

Great idea Robert, thanks!!! Looks pretty nice so far! Now there will be no more refrigerator or stove talk in the Imperial forum! :)

And if someone really wanted to talk about a twin-tub or wringer in the Imperial forum, they could just say it was an "Automatic Washer made before 1986"! ;-)

*ducks and runs*

Actually that brings up a good point Mr. Smartypants. I've set the code to post Wringer washer (or as CNN likes to spell it Ringer Washer) as well as Twin-Tub washer posts to post into the Imperial Forum. While not automatic they are vintage and there is not a huge amount of posts on those topics anyway.

I should of said 7064 is there but it is blank. LOL maybe i celebrated a little too much. arthur

OT: Thanks for a fabulous site

Hi Robert,

I'm Sarah--I've been here five or six months and nosed around a bit looking for the brains behind this wonderful endeavor without successfully figuring out who "the man behind the curtain is."

So, I'm just taking a moment to say thanks! Great site, great programming--lots of fun!

Best,
Sarah

Well thanks Sara for your kind words, running this site is fun to do. Whoever says being a webmaster is a "thankless" job isn't doin' it right ;)

As for CNN, I saw a headline a few weeks back called "Through the Ringer". They meant "Through the Wringer", but I bet most of these kids never even heard of a "Wringer" washer and don't realize where the expression comes from.

Hello Robert!

Wringer or ringer, we are dating ourselves by knowing the difference. Hats off to you for being the "utmostest" webmaster there is, and thank you again for giving us this gem of a place to call home.

I think you ought to add a vintage electronics topic. Many of us here enjoy messing with the old Hi-Fi's and especially tube electronics (love that Maggie record changer jason!)

Another good one would be a political thread too. I typically don't like to engage in the political discussions ( presidental elections, local planning, homosexual issues, whatever it may be!), but have been "suprised" a few times by the topic headings thinking it was about something else
