I finally brought home a set of Maytag 806's. As you know, while I really like the look of the 906's, I'm just not happy with it being preprogrammed. So here's a quick shot of the August 1970 A806 washer.

Just beautiful

Congrats Rich...I know you have been after a set of these for awhile. You must give me a demonstration of their superior washing action, lol!

Congrats Rich,

Best of luck with them.

Can we have that all important close-up shot of the control panel of the washer and dryer(dial), and the interior shot of the washer?

Great finds as always Rich, I know that you are going to love these. I've never seen one with that red indicator light before. I bet with the console light it will be beautiful.

Love your machines!

I really like the red light above the dial, It just gives it that little something extra. Mine is a series 2 A806 and it doesn't have that red light. Is your dryer electric or gas? I've heard that the gas HOH dryers are great but the electric ones really are a halo from hell, is this true?

It seems to me that the Maytag control panels of that era had that dusty blue for the Bottom of the Line,(A106,107) then they went gold until they got to the top of the line and then went that dusty blue to the A906 and DG906, just based on my inventory, but I am sure there were hybrids in the production.

Love Those "Red Light Maytags!

Congrats, Rich, on finding your Maytag machines. Not only have I been around many Maytag "red light" washers and dryers, but our family once had a Maytag dishwasher with its own red light. By the way, with all due respect to all the visuals, a good Windows Media audio shot of a classic Maytag *in a downloadable file,* from somewhere would really make my day.--Laundry Shark

Rich ... Congratulations! That is a very beautiful set.

I'm sure you will have all sorts of fun with those babies!!

BTW ... I don't believe that's a red light; I think that's from Rich's camera. That's a solid chrome strip above the dial.

With these top of line machines, the entire control panel was lit when the washer and/or dryer was on. That's pretty great!!!

Thanks for sharing, Rich; I love that classic Maytag look!!! :-)

My favorite cycle is the soak-to-wash,

Since I'm also a new 806 owner I'm wondering about the cycles. I know Michael had some confusion using our 806 last week, so I will pose the question here.
The timer has goes from Prewash to Soak to Wash. Does it automatically advance from one to the next or does it need manual advancement?
ALSO, does it spin out after the prewash AND soak?
I'll be at Michael's tonight, we have a new motor slide kit and rubber feet to install, so I can check things out further then.

Jeff -

On the earlier 806 washers that I have used, the pre-wash fills, agitates, sits for a little soak, spins out, ending the cycle. On the soak, it will fill, agitate slightly to get the soap into the load, and will soak for about 10 to 15 minutes (not sure), then will continue into the wash cycle starting at the 10 minute mark - the best part for those nasty clean up rags that Greg has spoken of.

Rich, that looks like my favorite dryer of all I've ever owned. So simple to set and use, and very efficient. If it's gas, that is. All bets are off if it's an electric.

I love the 806's and wish I had the space to hook up a pair like that and enjoy them. The silence of a Duet is nice, but who can resist the sound of a center dial washer working its magic, or companion dryer purring efficiently along? There's something really satisfying about seeing and hearing a well-engineered and well-made high quality machine in action.

Hey Rich,
Nice set
I guess now you'll be able to say that you're washing in the red light district.
