Help Support :

It's fun, Greg!

On Craigslist here. Oddly enough I answered an ad that just said "older twin tub portable" with no picture. The owner described it to me, I went over and was surprised. I had no idea it was even avocado. The tranny sounds very Speed Queen"esque".

OMG...Servis / Speed Queen / Simplicity

Wow Eddy I wish I was responsible, what a find...and advocado as well, lovely colour, no colour here just white with coloured trims, this was based on the Servis MK3 model 70 twinny which was out here in July 1970, Servis UK had an alliance with Speed Queen, (and it would appear Speed Queen with Simplicity??) would send out the innards of the machines, all pumps & hoses would be packed into the tubs, then SQ would make the cabinets (hence colours) & build them..

Only difference to ours is the 3kw heater, & the agi, the one here was the two stage model with "Snap-On Power Fin" which housed a lint collector, whats the waste hose like Eddy?? parts are still available here, BUT can you get the rinse nozzle pipe as seen in the pick, these tend to perish underneath and any pressure blows it apart!!!enjoy it, Mike

Eddy - That's a fantastic looking twin tub you've got there - looks really nice in Avocado too - have you put a load through it yet? I love the Speed Queen type agitator - like a mini-version of the old commercial SQ top loaders that were used over here.

Mike - do you know of any sources for supertwin pumps in the UK? I'm trying to help Rich get his 108 going, and the wash-side has a hole in the pump! It's turning into a real challenge to find a replacement down here, so any ideas would be very much appreciated. Your Mk70 is so cool - a real icon for me as lots of neighbours had those in Ireland in the 70s. I can recall some coming with black hoses rather than the usual Servis grey too.

Drain hose

Mike, the drain hose is in great shape as well as the fill hose which came with it. The only thing it's missing is the rubber clothes guard that fits over the clothes in the spinner. I guess SQ decided to make it a 2 speed machine and keep the one piece agitator. Wonder if SQ molded their own agi for this? Says Speed Queen on the bottom.
Guy, I never knew they came with a lint filter. Do you have a pic of yours?
David, yes I have done a load already and it works like a charm.
Glad to share this neat find with you all.

Twinny

Wow, a two speed twinny, who ever would have thought, you must have a world first there Eddy!!!, hoses look great, have a spare mat so will send one, the spin can looks similar to our previous model the MK3 model 42, this was the only machine to have holes, all the rest had solid baskets with a vane etc, later machines had electric pumps!!!looking forward to the vids etc....

David, have you tried TwinTub man jon in brum, he has spare twinny parts also marknrosemary on ebay in Notts, loads of spares there, dont have a spare but will keep eyes out for a donor machine etc...

And Guy, we need pics!!! we need a colour rush, Harvest Gold sounds great!!!

Cheers, Mike

Hi Eddy

Two-speed twin-tub!?! Wow - how is that achieved - is there a two-speed motor, or is it mechanically done? Very advanced - does the wash tub empty like the UK ones? On the UK models, there is a connection outlet in the front left-hand corner of the wash-tub and one attached the fill-hose to this to empty the tub. I ask because the spin-control suggests that the wash tub might be emptied using the spin-pump...

Mike - we tried marknrosemary, but no-luck, and can't find any contact details for twin-tub man Jon, maybe if you've got them you might be able to send an email. Thanks for offering to keep an eye out - if you come across anything that would be fantastic.

David

thanks for the pic, Guy

That looks kinda like the filter Speed Queen used on their big machines.
Hi David, it has a 2 speed motor and the selection is then made with the wash timer. Yes the spin pump, which is mechanical, drains both sides. The spinner must be running to empty the tub.

Love the light grey tub and the darker grey agi--very classy

Yes, that's the later vintage 4 vane classic SQ agitator is a scaled-down version.
The agi neck and cap are identical to one version of the SQ wringer agi. Sorry, no pic available.

Really like the styling on the control panel and the marked suds-return duct.

You know Eddy, as much as I like the Hoover, the 4 minute wash bothers me a little. I much prefer yours with the 15 minute wash. Of course the Brit Hoove's with the heat-up soak before the wash would be just as cool.

Also love how you can "empty" the spinner without spinning. Very unusual and so cool!

Healthy envy and empathy for you. You must be crazy about that washer. I sure would be!!!!;'D
