Snows and winters, traffic in DC---When I worked in DC-ALWAYS took the subway or VRE train to get to and from work depending on my shift. Many folks INSIST in driving into town for work-but the parking fees alone will cost more than the subway or train ride. And those rides are sure more pleasent than cussing at other drivers in "inchworm" traffic. My favorite workshift in DC was mids--when you get off work--you are LEAVING town when others are trying to get in-
On snowstormss--DC esp when they started that stupid "Home rule"Virginia and MD's roads were plaowed-but in DC everyone--cars and pedistians-were wallowing around in the unplowed snow. But the streets to the Mayors house were plowed.Never mind that DC is the Gov't workcenter.During the twin snowstorms in '95-first hit like on or about New Years-then ther second the very next weekend.I was stranded at home(fortunately)and couldn't even move from home in Manassas Va due to streets that needed plowing-subway,train systems that were closed and shut down. And those stupid bozo reporters on the TV and radio there encouraging folks to try to go out in their cars to buy milk, eggs, toilet roll, and bread. They should be SHOT!!We essential folks need to try to get to work!!We don't need to fight the dumb folks trying to do what is told to them on the TV and radio---In that case--if you don't have to go out--please stay where you are. Some folks were stranded at work.On another note out here in my workplace in NC-we used to run two transmitter plants.During hurricane Floyd that Flooded the eastern section of NC and Greenville-folks were stranded at "A" site for a week-no one could get in to relieve them-and they could not get out-a live on transmitter plant! When I work for this agency I am with they consider me and others that do similar work as essnetial employees-we have to try to get to work.During those snowstorms of '95it was so bad Me and another fellow that lives in Manassas couldn't get to our Downtown DC worksite. Most of the time when the snows hit DC it somehow falls on my weekend so I can watch the others try to fight it.Truely--DC public officials KNOW they get snow and the city serves and the primary gov't worksite-they would get better ways to cope with the snows. Also not to mention Downtown DC sereves as primary worksites for other important functions as well.So many things are based there.

Mrs. Douglas

Launderess, yes, Mrs. Douglas drove...thought she kept have problems with her "Pernadal" during her driving lessons. They always had a gold convertible, starting with the 1965 Lincoln. However when Lincoln dropped the convertible, he changed over to a gold Grand Marquis.

Oh, and what was that Pernadal problem? She couldn'd figure out P R N D L on the automatic transmission selector!
