The W.T.Grant washers were made by White Cosolidated Industries (WCI) for quite a while.Grants had a store at a shopping center (Frankford Plaza) not far from where I grew up in Baltimore. Two blocks down the street from Grants was FRIGIDAIRE Sales Corporation where I as a pre adolesent would go and pester people there to get information on new appliances and look at their displays! The Bradfords were like the Kelvinator,Hamilton,Gibson and Franklin washers and dryers.Their filtration system was similar to GE's Filter-Flo.Their dishwashers were like the Westinghouse and their ranges were made by Tappan.Their refrigerators were made by Gibson. They also had a twin tub washer/spin dryer that I believe was made by Toshiba. It wasn't until their later years in busines a period of about 3 or 4 years that Norge/Fedders was maling their laundry equipment. The same thing happend to Western Auto Stores.Their brand,Wizard, was made by Frankiln for decades and just before they went out of business,Norge/Fedders was making their laundry products.

Frigidaire was making the well known Signature (Montgomery Ward) dishwashers, refrigerators and garbage disposers from around 1959 to 1978.As time progressed,Admiral was also on board w/Monkey Ward and made some of their refrigerators too.Their ranges were made by Tappan and they were the only place I know of that had metal kitchen cabinets and pots & pans available in Poppy Red matching the FRIGIDAIRE and Gibson appliances that were also available in that color.I always wonder what would have happened if GM had either kept FRIGIDAIRE or FRIGIDAIRE had been able to become independant? We'll never know will we? So sad!

Launderama/Sudsville

In the same shopping center as Grants was a coin laundry called Sudsville. There they had Launderama washers that were like no other front loaders I ever saw.Their mechanism was on top behind the panel where the timers are on conventional washers ant the motors were made by Westinghouse. The front had a shoot with a see through window lid made of steel and plastic. There was no switch or lock.As soon as it came on,it went into a spin.As the water level increased, the tub slowed down to tumble. The door handle was like the on on the older GE dryers.a magnet held the door open. Some customers would just leave the door open and poor detergent, bleach and fabric softner in as they pleased. The only detergent available in their store was All.They also had signs posted that said "Washer oversudsing? Add a little Final Touch to reduce foam.)and "Too much suds ruin the duds add a little Final touch fabric softner to reduce suds"their was also a Westinghouse dry cleaning machine and a commercial popcorn maker. The Launderamas were all stainless steel inside and out and their gas commercial dryers were Cissel.25C wash 10Cdry.$2dryclean.10C for detergent, powdered bleach(Beeds o'bleach, and fabric .Final Touch.A lot of the customers there would go grocery shopping at the Pantry Pride grocery store there or pick up things at the drugstore (Fink's Drugs)others would go to the Woodshed to have a beer or two or three or forr---lol
