It was bound to happen, sooner or later I was going to find an Avanti. This little fellow was waiting for me down in the basement. Now I've heard some horror stories about Avanti's, but you know me, always a sucker for a lost cause. One thing I found interesting, it was manufactured 15 years ago. That's pretty good in my book. Still has fresh water in it, so it was used until recently. I'll try it out later this evening. Stay tuned.

Hey thanks CFZ. I would had been far more leery if it was made in China.

Well it went through an entire cycle. It worked flawlessly, right down to the end of cycle tune. All it needs is a good cleaning and it's ready for service.

Congratulations on your new purchase. It looks a lot like my LG Turbodrum. I bet it was made in the same factory, my machine was made in Korea too. My guess is yours is an older version, mine has the stainless steel drum and three little pulsators. Look at the pictures in this thread.

Thanks Louis, but I didn't purchase it. It was free. Found it next to the trash. And indeed, your washer does look similar. But I think being LG, the quality should be better than Avanti.

I started removing some parts in order to clean it. Looks almost toy like.

The lint filter was absolutely clogged, it consisted of gravel/sand, lint and some sticky residue.  Took a lot of scrubbing to get it cleaned.

I have a smaller RCA version of this. I LOVE it. I use it for smaller loads and single items that need washing. It's right next to my bathroom sink so very easy to use. I don't understand why normal size machines don't have lint filters. I empty the filter in my RCA after use and there's a lot of lint in there. Would be very useful in a larger machine I would think.

Doing the disinfecting cycle now. I'm just floored on how nicely it works. I figured out how to disengage the lid switch. Piece of cake. Now you can see the splashy action. More pic's to follow.

Very cool find!

Is that lint filter designed to be cleaned by the user, presumably with each use?

Maybe it was thrown out for the same reason Maytags were: The owner didn't know to clean the filter?

Hey thanks a lot Martin! I was looking for a manual online, but no dice. I really do like this machine. The only think I don't care about are the very long cycles. "Speedy" is 25 minutes!

I still can't figure out the lid switch on mine. It has a glass cover but I'd still like to run it with the lid open so I can do some videos!

each one is a bit different, but usually there are 2 to 4 screws that have to be removed from that rear top panel.....

on mine, I had to open the lid, and with a tiny screwdriver, reach through and pry the two tabs next to the lid hinges, and then that whole panel lifted off.....you can either cut and twist the wires together, or drill a small hole in the back and install a switch spliced between the wires, which is what I did....

it doesn't have to know the lid was raised as in some machines to reset the controls for each cycle, but if it goes out of balance and triggers the alarm, then this switch comes in handy...sensing the lid has been opened resets the out-of-balance buzzer and lets the machine resume its cycle...

interesting how they changed models.....Louie's has only two waterfall ports, one for the water fall and the other for the filter....

is this one a 1.7 cu ft size?......and wonder if these did the 850 rpm spin also...
