Sometimes my Lady Kenmore portable dryer takes 80 minutes to dry a load of clothes, and sometimes it takes 60 or 70 minutes to dry a load of clothes. I don't overload my Lady Kenmore portable dryer, but it sometimes takes a long time to dry a load of clothes. I can hear the hi limit thermostat cycle on and off, and I always clean the lint filter after each load.

you have to take into consideration what type of load you are drying. The heavier the fabric (towels, jeans, etc) the longer the time. More commonly matched fabric types that are lighter will dry quicker.

Also, if you use fabric softeners, it will cause the dryer to run longer. Softeners will make the laundry retain more water in the spin cycle which of course is going to add to your dry times.

Also, if it's electric, chances are it's only a 110 volt instead of 220 like a full size electric dryer. 110 won't heat up as hot as a 220.

Vintage Whirlpool Portable

About forty-five minutes to one hour for an eleven pound mixed load out of the Miele or Lavamat. Final spin speed is 1000 rpms or higher. Towels and or other heavy/thick items are put into spin dryer for an additional four minutes.

Fabric softener:

Always heard it was other way round; the stuff causes things to dry faster because the oils/fats/tallows or whatever make fabrics slightly hydrophilic (resist water) rather than retain. Same reasons for the oft quoted advice about not using fabric softener on bath towels, diapers or anything that is meant to be absorbent.

Does anyone know how hot those Whirlpool/Kenmore portable dryers get? I know 240v electric dryers get up to 140 degrees.

120 Volt Compact LKM Dryer

Drying times can vary greatly, if you are washing full 5-6 pound loads in the matching BD compact washer drying times will vary from around 45-90 minutes depending whether you are drying 5 mens shirts or a load of 5 bath towels.

The exhaust thromostat temperature should be 140 F on this dryer, the heater box safety thromostat should be 180 F, if the safety thromostat is actually cycling something is wrong with your dryer or the vent system is too restricted, I would look into that.

My Lady Kenmore dryer isn't hooked up to a long vent, and I don't over load my Lady Kenmore portable dryer. I think someone replaced the thermostats at one point, and they may have replaced it with the incorrect thermostats.

I cleaned out my Lady Kenmore portable dryer, and there wasn't a whole lot of lint, but there was some lint where the lint trap goes.
