The first mixer ever I've seen with a separate cord.

Separate cords aren't all that uncommon on mixers of this vintage, and they all seem to use the same type.

 

My '60s GEs have separate cords, but this Grant's mixer doesn't look like anything GE ever produced.

My mom used to have a Grants blender when I was a wee tot!  I barely remember us having a Grants store in Lawrenceburg, TN across from the Murray Lawnmower/Bicycle factory.  It later became a Kmart.

I got my mom a Hamilton Beach hand mixer back in the 70's that had a detachable cord. This Grant's mixer very well may have been made by HB; the beaters look like the ones on ours.

Greg, I've been through Lawrenceburg many times when I've taken Hwy. 43 to Florence, AL on my way to Mississippi. I really enjoyed the drive from Columbia before they widened the road. I especially like going through Mt. Pleasant. I hope to get down that way again next Spring.

Mt. Pleasant

has a few old plantations still standing. If you've never seen them, one in particular is Rattle and Snap...you can google it as well as St. John's Church at Ashwood, and its history I'll add a link to. There are pictures of St. John's on another website, again I'd have to google it. President James K. Polk's house is here in Columbia next door to St.Peter's Episcopal Church, the link below. You may already know these things though.

Driving on thru Lawrenceburg to Florence you go thru my home town of Loretto,TN! My parents still live there! I was actually born in Florence, AL. Dad retired from Reynolds in Muscle Shoals after 30 years working there. I miss Florence, it was practically home to me. Nice to meet someone who actually knows where Lawrenceburg is located!

Hey Greg, thanks for the link! I do remember seeing the church and cemetery, and Rattle & Snap when on old Hwy. 43. I also well remember going through Loretto, Leoma & St. Joseph, before entering AL., and seeing the big furniture store (Story & Lee). Also remember one of the towns has black iron lamp posts with round globes.

I love seeing all the big old plantations houses starting near Bowling Green, KY along 31W. Fun to see the old motels along the way, too. I rarely go I-65 now anywhere south of Munfordville, KY, as I miss seeing so much that I associate with going down south.
