Avocado Green Lady kenmore Washer in Albany,NY,The owner gave me a fake address.

Hello, Yesterday i drove to pick up the lady kenmore washer, I arrived at the address the owner gave to me, it turned out to be a fake address, so i was not able to pick up the Avocado green lady kenmore washer. I drove all the way to amsterdam,NY. For nothing. This person played a trick on me.

I will never try to buy something on craigslist again.

Very dissapointed vintage appliance collector here.

That sucks!
Did you call them back and ask what the deal was?
Why would someone do something like that over a vintage appliance? I just can't figure out what the gain would be.
If it was some sick joke....okay....but come up with a vintage appliance as the bait? Strange.....

Be careful with things like craigslist....for the most part its all been legit for me....but I never go alone, and I also let someone know where I'm going and stay in cell contact during the trip....safety first....there's some whackos out there.....always suspect a trap, and have an escape plan, you never know

one of my buddies is a power lifter, he doesn't look like much, until they see him lift these machines by himself, comes in handy for this type of collection....

my other buddy is an ex-cop, now private detective, he has a big truck, and carries several weapons, also can run a background check in an instant....just to be safe

Craigslist doesn't want to be accountable or even help in the chance that theres a scam going on....we have a guy here in the area, offering a FREE washer and dryer he doesn't need....uses a different email account every time, wants to meet at a "location" to deliver to you....claims he works for craigslist...reported him several times to CL, they won't look into it unless I track down every AD he puts up and sign a complaint at the local police, once he is arrested and convicted, or someone gets robbed and killed, THEN they will stop him from posting.....until this happens it's not their concern and they don't want to be involved...they really don't want to know if it happens, they don't want to be bothered

So, just be careful out there.....I just don't want to see any of our memebers get hurt over a machine....

Yes i did try and call the owner back again, But no answer and i have been trying to get him on the phone a number of times. So far he has not returned my calls.

I also have his email address, and have written to him, But so far no answer to explain what he did.

Any way, i hope everyone had a great 4th of july weekend.

I FEEL YA!

Several months ago I went through this with the Maytag A50 and DE50 that I now oddly have. The ad was posted and it sounded great, $50 for the set. I jumped on it, replying to the ad. It wasn't far from me either (30mi). In the ad, there was an address posted which I mapped. The seller stated that he still had the machines and I told him I'd be out that weekend. I show up at the address and almost get shot. There are like 7 people coming out of the house (which is in the hood) and they are looking at me like WTF. They ended up calming down and said that they had just moved in, but none the less.

So I'm sitting at home like 2 weeks later and I get a phone call from the seller. He said that they had moved, and that they had no internet access in the meantime. I ended up getting the machines, but what a racket. It was worth it (to me) but one has learned to expect the worse in dealing with CL.

My worst venture however has to be my trip from central KY to Green Bay, WI to pick up a rusted out, non-working Speed Queen twin-tub. I was sick with disgust after that, and still am. People are lazy I realize, but when someone is buying your damn 30 year old "was here with the house" washer, at least have the decency to open the lid and look in it, or hell plug it up. I won't go into it too much, but it wasn't worth it for free.

I owned up to it, but it makes me mad nonetheless.

I agree 100% with your post. There's been a few people robbed here at gunpoint (one at a vacant house and one in a Walmart parking lot) who answered ads listed on Craigslist.

Whenever I do a Craigslist deal, I have a routine that I follow. I almost never pay for the machine with cash, or if cash is insisted upon, I will only hand it over when I pick up the machine myself. I get phone numbers and street addresses from the seller that I can verify, simply by calling the numbers, and addresses I can verify by using Google World and seeing that there's a house where a house is supposed to be.

Even then, I've only been burned once, and that was by a member of this site who disappeared, with my money and my machines, into the ozone. That was a bit of a shock because I never expected anyone who put so much of their business out there on these forums to just fall off the face of the earth.

It sucks.

Well i have learned off of Craigslist too. I bought a like new condition Kenmore Canister Vac only to find that it did not have a plug.Now I only paid 5.00 for it which it is worth that in parts but I should have noticed that it did not have the plug.I bought it from someone that had plenty of money so I donot think that 5.00 dollars was going to make or break them.But I have learned not to just call someone and take their word for anything.Also to check it out real good I have gotten some good deals from there too.
