Younger people (I'm assume) want to get "That Old Green Thing" out of the house. If they used it and kept it, I would bet they would be amazed how quickly it will get the laundry done.
I have an 806.
Just love that machine for my White Tshirts from the Kitchen. Pre-wash Warm, Hot Soak, Hot Wash , Warm Spray Rinse and Cold Rinse. Persil and Stpp.
But I know what you mean. It's like my KD2-P. Washed Rinsed and Dried Dishes in like 38 minutes.
My Maytag experience has been limited to my parents' 1987 washer and dryer (still going strong), our Neptune pair, and current wringer washer. I hope the Maytag experts will pardon my ignorance, but what year did Maytag move the dial on automatics from the center to the right on the console? I seem to think 1979 or 1980.
Here's a pic of my mother's KA208S from 1976. Still in use after 1 repair. Mom's gone but Dad still uses it.
To WringerSteve - You sound like an expert to me. As Ben said the "10" models came out in 1980.
There was an avocado set on Ebay in Colorado a while back. Not sure if it ever sold. They were beautiful, as I recall. Wish the dryer had been electric. I would have considered ucrate to get them here.
