I am having problems with my TWO stanav units. In the Corolla neither will charge from the cigarette lighter socket despite the pilot light glowing on the charger plug and the light around the socket illuminating. What could the problem be? I bought a second unit but that does exactly the same thing. All thoughts and help greatly appreciated.

Hello Peter!

Confirm that you are sure you are getting power @ the cig lighter/power outlet by pushing in the lighter element or plugging in some other device.

If everything else is working fine, then it's most likely the power cord. Make sure there isn't a fuse within the cord / plug (the plug most likely comes apart somehow), if there is make sure it's not blown.

If you can find NO fuse in the cord, then the cord itself, or perhaps the plug / connector (at the device) is the problem.

I had this problem with my cell phone car charger, it would only charge with pressure on the plug from a certain angle. I eventually replaced the charger and now it charged without any problems.

I hope this helps!

I agree

If 2 GPS units won't charge, and you tried the same charge cable for each, it sounds like a charge cable issue. Did the 2nd unit have it's own charge cable, and if so, did you try it? Do you have the house charger cables and have you tried charging both units via house current?

On thing we continue to have trouble with is that the shape of some of the charge cable ends doesn't fit well in the cigarette lighter socket....sometimes even bending the metal contacts down inside the socket, blowing the fuse for the socket and whatever else is on that circuit (dome lights, horn, etc.). I've had to use tools to bend the contacts back into shape so the socket would again work, and would stop blowing it's fuse.
