during my weekend-I stopped and saw "Mr.Cotton" the area junk man and vac guy-besides me.I bought from him a "Universal" canister vac-It has a blue "Bomb" shaped body-cloth blue hose.It has chrome sled runners and chrome body fittings. It has a blower opening on the back.no attachments came with it.The motor runs great. It has a cloth bag something like an Electrolux triple x.Anyone heard of these??Its a neat looking "Retro style" "Atomic Style" machine.

Petek:Thats it-looks like the one in your link to the Doug Smith site.Yes there is a sticker on the bottom that says something like theLanders,Frary, and Clark.I was trying to remember that but when I saw the name in your entry-that was the maker. The machine I have is in pretty good shape-just needs cleaning and polishing-it doesn't have the attachments.I love the chromed sled"skis" on mine.the Charlie Lester website also shows one.

And coffee percs and waffle irons etc etc.. I believe GE bought them eventually and kept the Universal name going for a little while longer though only on the small countertop appliances

I have a blue Universal tank vac like yours. My Dad's parents had one too, which is why I wanted one. They are cool looking vacs. Enjoy yours. Universal seemed to be a popular brand on the east coast. I recall seeing Universal stoves growing up. I've never seen a Universal upright vac, although I know they were produced.

I am going to look thru my old Better Homes & Gardens magazines and American Home Magazines that I have from the 50's maybe there is an ad for Universal machines in them.Would like to see the Universal upright.
