Hoover Convertible Models 36 and 1070

Model 36(1966-1967) in Nassau Blue and pearl white, and model 1070(1969-1971) in a faded Marine Blue and seal griege light/medium/deep.
Also pictured is the CWP wood brushroller both these cleaners are equipped with. Note how the bristles spiral towards the center.

Hoover1060:The Air Way "New Century" resembles the "Sani-Clean" that I have-but yours has the Centurion power nozzle.also yours has the Centurion hose handle.Very nice machine.
I have a Green Hoover similar to yours-the CWP Brushroll sounds like a good idea.Does it have beater bars-the usual Hoover thing-Sebo also makes a different brushroll for delicate carpeting(softer bristles) than the stock one that comes in the machine. They are easy to change. And yes the bristles spiraling to the center routes the dirt to the suction intake area.I got my Hoover from a neighbor in the area.

Love my Hoovers!

Just my opinion, but I think the Convertible is one of the best cleaning machines I have ever used...

The Saniclean has the "enhanced" powernozzle and hose. The standard model is still available I believe...Oh Charlie?

Keep posting pics everyone

Austin.. how'd you come across a Simpson Sears vac?..you must post a picture of it to rekindle some of my lost memory cells.

Rex..can you post a pic of that Sebo avec servo wheels, that sounds like a fun machine.

And any thing else anyone might have.. surely there are more folks here with an old vacuum cleaner languishing around the house that should have its pic taken for us.

Now why is it I just can't seem to find any Hoover convertible or one of those nice Eureka soft bag uprights..they were always common here, especially Hoovers..it could be they're all still working and people haven't tossed them out yet?

New Century

Jeff,
You are correct about the power nozzle on the New Century. Air-Way decided to keep the product simple by only offering one hose and one power nozzle.

Rex,
The vac used to be called the Sani-Clean but Air-Way in an attempt to update itself renamed the the machine the New Century and added the upgraded power nozzle and hose.

Jeff,
I agree that the air diffuser really needs a makeover but look for pigs flying before that happens. The Black Knight made by by Air-Tec, (owned and operated by George Lovely, Jr., formerly of Air-Way), is really a New Century reworked. The exhaust is blown through, "a lotus design for increased airflow and better air distribution." And, the metal tool carrier, which is really the Air-Way old tool carrier, "attaches to the halo for an on-board attachment feature."

I'm including some pics so you can see the similarities and the differences. In addition the Douglas power head, they off an ungraded Eureka power head.

Attachment carrier

You can seem how Air-Way like the vacuum is. They also have installed an, "Air Velocity Enahncer," that moves the dirt around in the bag differently than Air-Way.

Interesting how old is new again...I wonder if any Air-Tec user knows the design of the tools is over 50 years old? Not a bad thing if you ask me...

I wonder why they haven't switched to the Hayden powerhead? The Douglas seems rather BOL to me as there's no quick-disconnect feature...

But other than that, I love this design. Instead of the Dyson Ball (Animal edition), I should get an Air-Tec BK 2000!

Not an Air-Tec an AIR-WAY!!!

Austin,
If you get a vacuum, please let it be an Air-Way! Air-Tec really just copied Air-Way and made enough changes to keep from getting sued for patent infringement.

If you really want one, let me know via email. Any of the VCCC members, interested in purchasing an Air-Way, have received a special deal from me, (Jeff can attest to this!), I would extend that courtesey to you as well. I love turning people on to Air-Way!

Bring some, "Sanitation To The Nation", down to Texas!

DON'T DO IT MAN!

Austin, you can have the Airway for MUCH less than you can have the brightly colored plastic ball...If you must have a brightly colored ball, I recommend the inflatable beach kind found with the other pool goods at Wal Mart.

The inflatable kind will last longer too.

AirWay Charlie:Looked up Air-Way and found the "New Century" is indeeed the upgraded "Sani-Clean"Did notice they still have the "Centurion" and "Signature" models-have both-VERY NICE Machines.Still would love it if Air-Way would reintroduce their uprights.Would be interested.I would think the battles between them and Hoover would be long over at this point.

Kirby and Airway - YAY......Dyson - Boo Hiss!

She looks teriffic Jeff! Now Austin is ready to *pimp* the G5.

@&*# that Dyson! I totally agree with you! Go to Wallyworld for that brightly-coloured beach ball! Those Dysons are overpriced, overmarketed, overplasticized pieces of @(#*

I am with Retromom:Dysons are overpriced and overmarketed-much like---you know who else.Yes-I do have a couple of Dysons-But most other vacs I have outperform them-including----Oreck!And now if you go to your local Best-Buy-Dyson has an even Sleazier looking competition-VAX-two machines offered-one at $259,other at $299. they are simple, bagless, plastic vacs with VERY SIMPLE clear dust cups and a filter on top-bet that will clog real fast---I wonder how long the "bagless" machines will last-who wants to dump the thing a get a cloud of dust in your face that you just picked up?Al though they are fun in that you can see what you picked up-I confess-I often "peek" into the paper bags in my machines to see what they picked up-thats why I like TriStar-Compact machines-the best of both worlds-good for "peekers"

Venus, did I catch thatcorrectly, you don't care for Dysons LOL

Want to see nasty, go to What's the best vacuum.org and see nasty taken to new heights. Espcially when it comes down to Dyson vs non Dyson people. It's hllarious how the combatants have every letter of every word ever mentioned by their assailants memorized, filed and archived for future retaliatory attacks. And the science on dust clogging up Filter A vs Bag H. They must all have electron microscopes at home to measure it. Silliness to the nth degree and they're dead serious about it.

Hey now...

...let's not be vacuum snobs, ok? Not everyone can have Kirby's, and the unwashed masses try so hard to keep up, let's not hurt their feelings, ok? Hehe...seriously, I've friends with Dyson's who'd willingly suffer martyrdom before parting with it.

I've a Fantom Fury that I swear puts more dirt on the carpet than it picks up. I'm still figuring that one out. My sister, on the other hand, genuflects and crosses herself at the mere menton of the word "Fantom." She and her husband seperated for awhile -- would you believe that thing was the first item to go into her car?!?! I am serious.

By the way, here's my Kirby Kids -- they're not as tidy as Charlie's, they just came in from playing that day. I'm doing some rearranging here, and was able to get the group shot.

Cheers,

John

I too visit the Whats the Best vacuum cleaner site and read the battles between "bag" people and "Dyson" folks-the Dyson guys really get serious. But to sum it up-Its a vacuum cleaner!!Not magic.I hate to bust their bubbles-but the Dyson filters will clog like a bag as well-depends on WHAT is picked up.If you pick up flour, ashes, face powders, plaster dust, drywall dust that will clog bagless filters QUICKER than a bag.Thats is why the instruction manuals with bagless cleaners advise you not to pick up such things with them.

Hmmm

I don't visit "Whats the best vacuum" just because of the Dyson wars..UGH some people just can't stand it when people don't think like them.

John your Kirbys are beautiful!

True story on Oreck: My mom tried one back about 1998, when she decided to retire her Hoover Convertible after 34 years. She sent it back after 2 days of the 15 day trial. Her reason: "I could get more dirt off my floors with a shovel"
