Hope Barbie will enjoy her rocket sled runs-Remember watching rocket sled test runs at Holloman AFB as a kid-My Dad worked on rocket guidance systems-they would be "G" tested in the sled-these could run at supersonic speeds! You had to watch closely or you would miss seeing the sled as it went by.You would sure hear its sonic boom!Loved that! The sleds there were stopped by water brakes-in between the sled track rails was a long water trough-it had to be filled before each run.A Masonite panel was at the beginning of the trough-a scoop on the bottom of the sled would break the panel and the water would then be caught in the sled scoop and thrown up as a GIANT rooster tail. The sled was stopped and the sudden stop would put additional stresses on the load riding the sled.At one time a person rode this--and he had to be really strapped down!if not-would be killed by the acceleration and deacceleration. Those things got to speed FAST when the rocket was started-special solid fuel rockets.Sometimes the sled would fly off the track and get buried in a sand dune-another further test of a rocket guidance system! If it withstood THAT-well pretty good. The sled didn't ride on wheels-but special runners-and the rails were greased-generally before each run.Well strap Barbie in and see how she endures her trip!Really neat model!!
Another awesome, surreal vision! You have quite an imagination, Mark. Thanks for sharing your talents with us. I always love to see your latest project.
