Hey all,

I am wanting to swap out the springs on my basket drive (part #366659) but I don't want to destroy it by not knowing what I am doing. My Kenmore washer, 1072693430, is working okay now that I have installed the old basket drive back into the machine. I tried installing a new one that I got but the springs weren't strong enough. So now I want to swap out springs on the basket drives so that I can use the new basket drive.

When I loosen the screw that holds the brake pad plate to the shaft it doesn't move. I've tapped on it with a hammer but I don't want to go banging on it any harder because I don't want to damage it. How do I get that metal plate (the one that sits on top of the springs where the brake pad sits) off of the shaft to access the springs?

Any advice is appreciated.

Once the set screw is removed the hub should lift off the spin tube, but I imagine there is some debris that may be interfering with the removal. I'd continue to tap lightly around it to break up anything that may be interfering and continue to try and remove the top of the brake. Here's a post where I documented the rebuilding of a basket drive...
