Mark, I believe this is actually a mid 1980s LA7680.
The LA7800 had five temp buttons vs. the four on this model. I think this one is missing the Hot/Warm setting vs. the 7800. The two models were very similar --- the only other difference being the 7800 usually had a white basket and the 7680 had speckled, in 1980s trim anyway.
Ordinarily this machine could have been made anywhere from late 1982 to 1985 or 86. New control panels came out in the primary Whirlpool line in 1985, BUT some special models that were sold at Circuit City retained the old control panels, I think as a way of letting C. City have unique models so they didn't have to honor the price guarantee (no chance of finding a machine cheaper somewhere else when nobody else could stock it).
Anyway, I don't believe that by the 1980s, any of the WP models in standard capacity had push button temps, at least not common models. The LA7680 was a VERY common large tub machine and yes, it did have the winged Double Duty Surgilator.
This machine was made in the mid 1980s because it has a Kenmore-esque cabinet, devoid of the former Whirlpool indents at the top and bottom of the cabinet. I believe that changed in 1983 approximately.
Looks like this machine is in good physical shape, and if that extends to its mechanical condition, its a bargain I'd say.
