Be a Good Mixer: Part Two

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

When I was growing up and through my teens, our household mixer was a Dormeyer. KitchenAid mixers were not available anywhere in the small-town city in which I was a child/teen. If a home didn't have a Dormeyer, then they had a Sunbeam with the bullet-shaped black rear control. Occasionally, our Dormeyer would destroy its own beaters. Replacements were cheap and available, however.

Re: #25

David,
I believe that your antique Hamilton Beach stand mixer must be the same model that my Aunt Louise had. I remember that on holidays at her house she always made the Mashed Potatoes with her Hamilton Beach mixer. It fascinated me because the beaters were different that my Mom’s Dormeyer. The Hamilton Beach beaters were connected and both were inserted and removed at the same time. Aunt Louise’s Mashed Potatoes always were really fluffy and delicious.

I grew up with Sunbeam mixers-My Mom,Stepmon, and grandmother had them.I have one now best machine for batters and----mashing potatoes.Later Mom went to a KA-her Sunbeam died. When she passed don't know where her KA mixer went to.She and I picked the mixer up and its attachments from the hobart place in downtown DC.

For bread or large batches of cookie dough we use our Kitchenaid 600, but for cake batter I like my original unrestored Sunbeam Mixmaster model 5 circa 1939.  With the Sunbeam, I find it convenient that I can scrape the bowl while it's spinning.

KitchenAid 4C

Does anyone happen to know if the bowls from a KA 45 and KA 4C are interchangeable? I just bought a 4C that is in great shape, but only came with 1 metal bowl, which I don’t think is original. I’d love to find a replacement metal bowl, along with a glass beehive bowl and another combi beater for it. Finding it hard to find these items on eBay or other sites without buying another whole mixer set. Have seen some accessories for the KA 45 which seem similar, but wasn’t sure if they’d work on a 4C or not.

Thoughts?
