Bearing squeal from KitchenAid Superba 20

Hi All:

I got a "new" KDS20 to replace my old one that finally rusted out and leaked. It's mint, but the motor bearing squeals. Any suggestions? I can swap the motor from my old one, but are gaskets still available from Hobart?

It is more likely a noisy water seal, bearings usually roar in KA DWs when bad, you could post a recording of the sound that might help identify the source of the noise.

No need to blow a gasket!

Bobby, there is only one gasket that seals the pump and that is the black rubber gasket you can see inside of the sump. It surrounds the motor mounting plate and sits inside the recess of the sump area. Most of the time they are reusable. I make sure the sump area is clean and free of dirt and debris and then I liberally apply liquid dish washing detergent to the gasket and some to the sump area and then just press the pump back down into the sump. It will usually slip right into place. The secure the clips and connect the hoses and wires and you should be good to go.

Hobart is probably the only place you can get them new now. Part number is 00-115716 and the list price is 24.73 Available either from your local office or thru the Hobart E-store.

Thank you so much! Is it possible that it's the seal? Here's the deal-I changed the pump top, wash arm support, impeller, and water seal when I first got it because it was leaking. There was no noise at that point, but it would not fully drain. About one inch of water remained in the sump. I took it apart again, took out one motor shim, and put it back togther. Drained fully, but the noise started to appear. It is a high pitched tweet, almost like a bird is caught in the works. It usually starts after the first prewash, never from the beginning. It tends to quiet down a bit when the detergent gets into the water. If it is the seal squealing, how do I figure it out?
