Beaters fall out on Sunbeam Mixmaster

I recently obtained a Sunbeam Mixmaster in harvest gold. However I cannot get the beaters to snap into place. I have them inserted per the symbols above the holes, and I have the handle all the way up and clicked into position. I've tried inserting the beaters and twisting but nothing happens. If I lower them into the bowl they just fall out.

Is something broken or am I missing something here?

Are you sure those are the correct beaters for that mixer?

I think they are, there is an oval shaped and a square shaped. The shafts are wide at the end and have four notches at the end. There are also cone shaped parts above the beater ends. However, I have seem some that look about the same but that have only two notches at the end. Maybe those are what it should have?

Go on ebay and do a search for you particular model number and take note of the beaters that are being sold with the mixer. This should give you an idea of whether or not you have the correct beaters or not. Or just do a search for replacement beaters for you model number.
