Beautiful Turquoise Maytag Set!

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support AutomaticWasher.org:

Looks like the agitator was replace at some point with a later 60's turqoise and they put the original chrome cap on it.

Kind of nice, don't you think? Sort of "blends" in; even though it's not the original black. I would even add the fabric softener cup; you could then walk away and let her wash!! :-)

Veg -

Yes it is! That dispenser first appeared on the A142B around 1958/59ish, and was used on TOL models (142,160,700,900,702,902,806,906 - might be missing some!) for quite some time, until they changed the beach system completely starting around Series 01/02 (mid 70's), to the larger style on the left hand side. The revised dispenser was used on most of the line expect the lowest models when the change was made in the mid-70's.

That dispenser is a very strong memory of mine on my mom's 806.

Oh Geoff,

I wish I had something to tell about this set! After seeing Greg's machines out behind his garage the nite of the convention, I've wanted to find a 140/141/700/702 turquoise set - but I have a feeling that my friend in crime would be interested in this particular Ohio set if he so chooses!

Ben ... a very nice set to have. Let's see; will you guys have all the colors now?

I was trying to find info on the colors from that period last night. I think the 101, 102's started with white, pastel yellow, pastel green. Pink wasn't introduced until late 1950's, I think!!

How fun to be able to line them up all up ... and more fun to use them all!!! :)

To both Pete's --

On the 500 series (Super Highlander) dryer's I've seen, the auto units have 4 buttons, like the dial of an 806 dryer. The dryer (700) in the picture looks like it has 3 buttons, maybe for perm press/regular and giving you the option for air fluf - then the dial would be the time? I agree Peter - that dial is hard to read! I wish I was dryer-savvy...

Ben - who is now yearning for a Dryer service manual!

does it seem the washer has been used hard? does it look like the porcelain on the basket has worn away toward the bottom due to the wash action?

But wait! There's more! I would guess that the dryer dial graphics dried up and peeled off the dial because of the combustion by-products making their way through the entire cabinet and exiting where there was any opening. Usually you see the paint on the glass discolored but that looks like it might be OK. Those gas pilots were just wicked to these beautiful dryers.

Maytag introduced pasteltone pink in its 1956 line

and pasteltone green and yellow were introduced in the 1955 line. PATRICK COFFEY

.

I have an extra chrome dryer control bezel with the glass with the dots,if anyone needs it. A leftover from my Maytag dryer "conversion" last summer. It was from this one.

Sorry Harvestgold, the part was spoken for ten minutes after I posted it. Don't think that would have fit a Highliner anyway.

Harvest Gold

Hi,

I believe this is Harvest Gold. I guess John likes cool 50's and 60's colors too! What a great set. Hope they work as nice as they look (I don't know much about Maytags being a GE fan so this is way out of my sphere of knowledge). Glad they got saved by a club member.

Hey Mike, I dont think it was John Harvestgold that won that set. I just talked with him on the phone this morning and Im sure he would have mentioned if he had won them, esp. since they were in Ohio. I was hoping that my friend Tim would have gotten them. He was the first to bid on them.. alas hope there will be another set for you Tim!

Pretty Sure

Hi Jimmy,

Have not heard from you in a while. I did not want to call you when you had that last estate sale going, I know how busy that gets for you. Hope it went well!

I am pretty sure John got the set. I found out his ebay handle when I saw one of his jukeboxes for sale a while a back (Seeburg 161). If I am right, I hope they work. They look like they have potential to be a very nice set. Again, I am Maytag ignorant so know nothing about these (not to upset anyone, but to me they were always boring to watch work as my Grandmother had a set, not sure which model though). I do think the set Erik posted pics of a few days ago (harvest gold maytag pair) are stunning. What a nice set of machines.

I tend to collect what I liked or remember from my childhood: Ford and GM cars, GE appliances, etc.

John, let us know if I am right or wrong.

Mike

Mike:

You are exactly right. BORING-- But the quality my dear far surpasses anything you may have bought. Therfore, the existance of it's still being alive is more than a sentence or mouthfull.
