A very dear friend of mine in New England has this fabulous Westinghouse electric range up for sale - It has been in use in the same family since November of 1953 and still going strong. The range was rewired about 7 years ago - one burner and switch have been replaced and the left front burner, an original, only heats on the high setting. Ovens and lights and yes, even the clock/timer, are all working!
Oh, and how can I forget - the burner controls are the colour-glance ones!

What a Beautiful Clean Stove!

Much more modern looking than my mom's 40-inch 1949 Commodore model.

I'm curious about how you described the issue with the left front burner.   Is it only the outer coil that heats/glows or do all coils glow on the "High" setting?  Depending on the answer, it could be a problem with the switch, the wiring to the switch or from the switch to the coil, or the coil itself.

On my mom's stove, every once in a while a burner would become partially inoperable due to a wire coming loose or breaking off where it connected to the coil.  An easy fix.  Only once was a coil itself at fault back in the early 80's, and at that time I was able to get a couple of good used Corox replacements for free from a stove guy in town who was going to junk a later 50's yellow 20" model.

I hope your friend's stove finds a loving home where pots and pans remain stationary and contents get stirred.  That's the key to long burner element life, as in 60 years or more.

Westinghouse stove

I can't beleive this ! I just bought the same model(minus the deep well) Fathers day weekend. Mine came from an estate sale were the house was built in the 50's with a rec room and second kitchen in the basement. The kitchen looked like an "I Love Lucy" set, but it was not used at all except for the matching frig that was pretty beat up. The right front burner on mine has the " burner with the brain " that senses the temp of the pan and keeps it at a steady temp. After wiping 50+ years of dust off it, it looked show room new ( I don't think some of the burners were ever turned on). The only problem is the clock does not work. I probably should'nt tell you this part... I paid $250.00 for the red and crome dinnet set( in like new condition) - and $50.00 dollars for the stove that they thought would never sell !@!
