Nice set Ben.
I remember when these guys hit the market. I think it was just about the time in New Jersey anyway, that every home had an air conditioner hanging out of everyother window. It was kinda neat to push a couple of buttons and away she goes.
I bet they'll clean up nice. Have Fun.

Clorox "Clean-Up"---------
best cleaner ever. Eliminates odors, strips away all soils, grease,etc. Don't forget it IS a bleach, so careful of your clothes! Will make that dispenser compartment like new, after a good soak, scrubbing with a toothbrush, and flush. I've never found anything else that will clean, whiten and de-odorize an old machine any better.
Congratulations on finding such a nice old BD. I don't think we will see too many TOL's of that vintage again.

that set is great and it will clean up beautifully with a little TLC. They are rare birds nowadays. Good find.

NO you are not stupid or crazy for picking up such as beautiful set!! I hope that you will make the room to keep these. They don't even make a solid state toploader anymore. I look forward to seeing these up and running, I've never really seen a BD DD agitator operate before. Wonder how it performs.

Thanks for the kind comments everyone! I'm still not sure what to think about this set, besides that they are ULTRA cool. I ran a quick water test tonight before hitting the bar since the washer is really close to the wash tub and water faucets.
The thing is amazing. Not quite as quiet as a Quiet-Pack machine, but darn near close. Don if you are listening - very similar to your 1966 Kenmore set. I really think it will be a great set to have around for a few months once I get the washer cleaned up.
I took some video tonight of the test but I'm to tired to post anything to YouTube tonight. Maybe this weekend I'll post something after snatching up one of my dream machines. Hint? Think beyond Solid State. Think *digital* ;-) more to come later.

Oh that is just gorgeous. I can just hear the classic Kenmore sounds coming from it as I look at the picture. I hope you have lots of fun with that washer.

Yes but there were relialtbity issues. Still exist today, but "toned down"! HA!
Late 1980s?? FunGuy, the first electronic control Whirlpool/Kenmore machines were in the late 1970s. As has been mentioned several times, Whirlpool's first model was the LFA9800 in 1978. Kenmore may have been a year sooner, as they typically get the new stuff first.
I think the first electronic model for Kenmore was a '78 model also. The '79 lineup had two electronic machines, one less feature-filled under the Lady K (no triple dispenser and the standard woodgrain panel top), then the '80 line had the linear control panel as pictured here in Ben and Kenny's machines. I am fairly sure that the last issue of the electronic BD machines was the '82 model, which was in production for several years.
The reliability issues as mentioned above must have been fairly significant, as most models, if they have the longevity of a couple years of production, only got revised a couple times (sometimes a pump or a timer would be changed, which slightly altered the machine's model number but not it's overall appearance), but the final electronic model had something like 6 or 7 revisions, including two completely different processor boards.
