Hey! Ben, I have that same Set:
Except that mine are in the Coffee Color, my Dryer is Electric and they were bought new in 1982. The TV Antenna at our house that we lived in the mid to late 1980's, was hit by Lightening and that caused the Circuit Boards in both my Washer and Dryer to be burned out. After I had Sears come out to let me know for sure as to what was damaged and the cost, I went to the Local Sears Parts Department and ordered the Parts that were needed to Repair the Machines. The Tech that come out to check the Washer and Dryer out, didn't realize {I'm guessing} that both of the Circuit Boards were damaged on the Dryer and the Safety Start Switch was damaged as well. They've operated perfectly ever since after I got the Parts and did the Repairs.
It also broke-down a Portable Color TV in our Bedroom and it made an Electric {corded} Clock run backwards, from reversing the Polarity. We replugged the Clock in, by turning the Plug over and it started running again Clock-Wise. The hit of Lightening also caused the Circuit Breaker to one of the Outlets in our Living Room, to trip and it kept our pretty expensive Stereo Equipment and Color TV from getting damaged.
Enjoy them Ben Washer and Dryer, I know that I still do. "FYI" if you press the Start Switch Control up on the Washer and then right away press the Hold Button, you can change some of the Cycle Selections, but if you don't press the Hold Button, the Washer automatically sets-up a Regular Cycle, Warm Wash and Cold Rinse. That is so the Washer wouldn't be apt to damage any Delicate articles of Clothing. If you press the Start Switch on the Dryer and don't select a Cycle, it will run for approx 15-seconds, then the Signal will let you know that it is shutting off, so the Dryer won't damage any Delicate articles.
Fun times, with a "BD" Lady Kenmore Washer and Dryer, Steve
