My Dispensall
Here she is... She needs ALOT of TLC but at least I have one now! I need to take her apart and clean her and repair the rust spots but overall it should be ok. It DOES need a motor though but luckily i have one from the avocado FF I just junked. I will post more pics whe she's up and running but for now heres a few.
Oh and the story goes... I got a totally random email on thursday of last week from a local guy 20 mins away who recently suffered flood damage to his basement with all the heavy rains back in june. He's had this machine since the 70's- it was his mothers. He used it regularly for the past 30 years and never had any problems. When his basement filled with 12" of water, the motor was submerged. After the waters receded he thought nothing of it and decided to do a load of wash - the washer filled but the motor didn't so much as hum. He decided to see if there was anything online about it and when he googled "GE Americana Dispensall" MY NAME and a link to my profile on THIS SITE came up (thank you Robert for helping to make a dream come true!). He noticed I was local and emailed me to come see it. I got to check it out today and now it sits at my parents with my other new one.(they however are not so thrilled) HOW AMAZING IS THAT! I was 20 mins away annd this guy just thought to email me instead of junk it! I'm thrilled and can't wait to get back up there to work on it. It does need alot of work but i can't wait to dig in to it! I'm sure with all of your help it will be running in no time!

2006 is definately the year of the dream machines!

Believe it or not this machine and the 60's model are the only two I ever wanted and less than a year of looking has brought be both - thank the GODS!
And my parents have been so great to allow me to have them there, so now that my searching is over i can relax a while. (I told them no more)
But this is the icing onthe cake. Unfortunately he also just junked the matching dryer and thought about me possibly wanting the pair after the man already took it away but i'll find one yet. for now - I'm more than contented!

OMG Matthew, what a cool machine. Motors and the likes can be found, even if you have to take one and have it re-worked by an electric motor shop. Not a big deal.
Your NEW machine is so cool, and I am not a GE fan until I saw Austins in Texas.

Very nice! All tricked out and with lighted console! It won't be long and you'll have her up and running. I am not familiar with this type of GE,so I gather "the Tank" is for holding bleach? Was this usually broken or absent?
Wow Matt - what a cool find! I don't know much about Dispensall's - but sure looks like it would be tons of fun! Congrats on yet ANOTHER dream machine!

Oh, but the tank did so much more than bleach! It did your bleach, your fabric softener, your detergent, and everything! That's why it's so important and rare when you find one that someone hasn't ripped-out the tank and chucked it.

Excellent find - they are fun machines. I love the multi-directional Filter-Flo mechanism in these machines, hopefully you'll get it up and running perfectly very soon.

I'm Jealous......
Matthew....I have been waiting to come across that exact washer around my area for years!! My aunt had that exact same washer and I adored it when I was younger. Thats my holy grail of washers as well. I am just a lil jealous and a lil pissy......but I am happy for you just the same. Gonna have to insist on videos for this one...... Congrats!

I definately agree and don't think its all that bad if outsiders see our profiles - its a way for them to tell other people and also to find machines like I just had happen for me - If i wasn't listed this too would have gone to the crusher!

Matt, CONGRATULATIONS, and an AMERICANA version to boot!!! WOOHOO! I can't believe it has the tank as well, simply amazing! I know how you had been wanting one for quite some time; glad it finally paid off!

This machine is completely original - he even had the blue mini basket in there and told me how he liked to use it for his underwear (!). He used the dispenser for every wash too and really enjoyed it. He said he had heard that people had trouble with them getting clogged with lint but he then showed me how you so simply remove the tank and rinse it out. Its really in great shape over all. I have to scrape some rust and repaint some spots of course but thats easy. For now I need to get working on the motor. I'm thinking I'll have to get a meter and test everything. Does anyone have any input or suggestions for what the problem might be. I'm just assuming its the motor that is dead since it was under water for some amount of time. The timer advances and the water solenoids open but when I turn the dial to spin there is nothing but a slight hum from the timer. The motor does nothing. Anyone have any ideas before i take it all apart?
