Belt change on a Bauknecht dryer TRA 5330

Since 1999 this Bauknecht dryer is working very hard to keep up with the demand. Only towels and some underwear are dried automaticly. But last sunday the belt snapped, and because monday the local repairguy took a nap, I stopped by today to get a new belt.

I rolled the dryer to the garage to get it done. What I saw was a very crappy build thing. This thing is 10 years old and it's praticly falling apart.

Top and backpanel off. The drum is "pressed" between the back of the dryer and the front. Here you see the heaterbox, the drum with no belt, and the electronics on the left.

The bottom of the dryer is made out of plastic. The blower and duct are pressed in the bottomplate. The panels are hooked onto it and are not stable. You can the whole cabinet with a fingertip.

The motor is very small compared to one of a washer. The drum is supported by 4 wheels. Two at the front, and two on the backpanel. Those two bars under the door are measuring the humidithy of the clothes (electronic controlled dryer). On the duct, there is a thermosensor, I guess preventing overheating causes. This was before cleaning

and with the blower cover is removed, to clean out all lint.

Notice again the small motor. Those two rollers are there to tight up the belt as drum is turning.

Mum didn't check the pockets so

there was gum inside the dryer and sticked on the drum. Lint accumulated on it. I had to scrash it of with my fingernails... auch

of the drum, the other two wheels are supporting the dryer. There is felt insulation so the drum runs smoothly and the heat stays inside.

Heater

This is whats making this thing hot. I was impressed by the size of that thing. It is a 2600 watt heater.

It may make you feel ripped off, but that's pretty much how dryers are made. They aren't heavy. It's just a box with a drum. You can imagine how I felt when I had to change the roller in an almost new Whirlpool dryer and found that the factory one wasn't a roller at all. It was a rounded spring with a teflon strip. Aside from the plastic base, the one in your pictures looks pretty good.

Now she's up and running

but because of the weak construction, the cabinet is moving when the drum turns. There is nothing to do about it, the panels are so weak and they are all supported by that plactic bottomplate.

hi, we had also an bauknecht dryer which failed after 6 years, it was full of dust and the dust sensor kept telling the lint filter was full whilst it was empty. Bauknecht machines are no longer what they used to be, they are crap, we had 2 bauknecht washers that didn't make it to 5 years
