While staying in Wiltshire, I came across a derelict building containing a 7142A Autowasher Deluxe (along with a Flatley electric clothes airer and a Newhome Cabaret gas cooker. The owners of the building have, according to a neighbour, left the place to rot for over 30 years. I have accordingly taken the Bendix into protective custody and am alerting this forum in case anyone wants it. Unfortunately, the top is somewhat rusty, and the bottoms of all side panels have a fair bit of rot, the main bearing is pretty grumbly, and the rubber door boot is torn, so it may be a goner. Also, the front panel of the detergent drawer cracked off the moment I pulled it - it may be that it could be glued back, I don't know. Here is a photo of it enjoying its first sight of broad daylight in 30 years...
Just to let you all know, unless I can make an arrangement with my host here, this machine must be gone by the morning of Friday 2nd November, and if I have to take it to the tip, so be it... send me an email at [email protected] or phone 07305 079870. I would prefer to let the Bendix go to an existing member of the forum who will be brave enough to restore it or at least enable another Bendix to live with parts from this.
