Hi Guys,

We'll I got the Bendix for $1, as suspected it came from a deceased estate. The water was still turned on to the machine, and the drain hose was running through the middle of the room to the floor drain, but I'm not sure whether it has been in use. The machine still had its original inlet hoses with brass fittings, attached to the Bendix Taps, which I also have. There was no sign of any other washer hookup, so it might've been in use.

It appears that this bendix has come out of the UK, the motor was made by the English Electric Company.

Anything that is rubber on this machine has basically perished.

IE Door Seal around door, door seal around glass, fill hoses, drain hose, the float hose, the Seal around the back of the drum, and the filter seal all need replacement. The only part which is hard but not brittle is the Dispenser tube.

There only seems to be two places where Rubber insulated wiring was uses, and that was out of the motor, where it joins the rest of the wiring harness and the supply cord. Both of those are in too badder shape to even contemplate plugging it in. The rest of the wiring is all PVC and looks quite serviceable.

A few questions now, does anyone have any of the more proprietry rubber bits?

IE Filter Seal, Dispenser tube, Door seal on frame, door seal around glass. The rest of the rubber should be fairly generic?

Secondly, does anyone have a wiring diagram for these machines? The Temperature switch has 3 terminals, but only 2 wires. I cant find any spares floating inside the cabinet.

Thirdly, the User manual from here talks about the need to oil and lubricate every year. Does someone have a service manual for these machines? I'll need to remove the drum pulley etc to replace that back seal, and I'd like to know if there is an easy way before I start.

Forth, There are 4 copper tubes comming out of the inlet valve. 2 to the airbreak and 2 to the float switch. What are those two supposed to do? Where is the temperature measured?

Fifth, what are the too footprint shaped sections on the top of the drum? It looks like two pieces of metal have been welded in.

Sixth, are there 2 backs to the washtub? There seems to be the outer tub, that has air holes, and which everything is bolted to, I'm assuming that there is then an inner tub? What sort of seal was used between the two?

I'll post some pics now, the top is in good condition other than a chip at the very back

In the photo of the float, would not the copper tubes be hot and cold water? Perhaps this machine fills via the area that contains the float.

Hopefully "Washndry" and a few others will see this and weigh in with their experience. That machine is a really kool addition to your collection. Congrats!

BENDIX

Check out the Manuals on the opening page, I have wiring diagram on the back of same machine, The washer doesn't have a cold rinse, it uses warm water, and if you shut off hot after wash cycle it will give you cold rinse, the machine has to be bolted down, Unimatic (robert) can probably give you more advise about machine,
Good Luck and keep us posted on progress, I'm curenntly working on a 1952 Bendix, with susspenion, (no bolt down needed)
Good Luck
Kim
