A friend of mine sent this via email yesterday - some clipping and picture from a 1963 BH&G magazine about the kitchen in the house they just bought. From the reports of the new owners, nothing had changed in the kitchen, even the curtains and accessories, since the magazine article was printed. They loved it so much, they never changed it.

I'm assuming those are Frigidaire appliances. If it isn't, what brand dishwasher? If it is Frigidaire, is it a Custom Imperial? What year? There's a metal looking thing to the right of the door handle. What could it be?

The appliances are all Frigidaire, I'm skeptical if they are indeed 1962/3 models, that may be when BH&G got around to the article and the house was built earlier. To the right of the door handle on the dishwasher is the push-to-start button.

The pass-through over the cooktop is interesting, I guess to keep those cooking odors and grease-laden air moving through the house... And if one pass-through weren't enough, there's another for the coffee/tea cups next to it. Kind of reminds me of the "Automat" cafeterias.

Interesting Kitchen

I wonder if the applainces and built-in clock (on the soffit above the sink) still work.

I agree with Greg and Steve, that's a very unusual location for a cooktop. I would imagine that grease etc. would splatter, into the dining area, through the pass through. It must present quite an after dinner clean-up challenge.

Are the new owners going to change anything?

Mike

Greg, by 1961 Frigidaire had redesigned the outside of their dishwashers and had the big-ass dial on the door and no locking handle. Houses on our street were built late 1960, early 1961 and that's what was next door.

Exactly, Bob. I suspect this house was built in the later 50's too.

I'm not sure what, if anything, the new owners plan on changing about this kitchen. I'm not a huge fan of knotty pine in the kitchen so it might all have to go if it were my house. I was curious about that clock too, it would be fun to save a couple of things from the kitchen if there is a remodel planned.
