The High Tide experience ~ ~ ~
A Few Points
One, that Walmart in question deserved to be philfered of Tide and whatever else anyone could take.
I mean you see the suspect walking out the front door with a trolly full of Tide and other P&G products (swore one saw Cascade as well), and not one single person from the store stops him No wonder the man was seen on video several times,and then went on to admitt he had done it nearly 20 times before. It took management how long to wise up to the shortages?
Here in NYC the large superstores have security at all entry and exit points, complete with officer and detectors. Most also do what the large K-Sears in the Village does; all shoppers are asked when leaving the store to show receipts to security which is then checked against whatever one has in one's hands.
A NYC store manager that let this go for so long probably wouldn't have his job long I should think.
Regarding Tide and other TOL P&G product thefts, can see it happening one supposes. Times are hard and many used to using "the best" but cannot because of a downturn in finances may not ask too many questions when presented with items that have "fallen off a truck".
The whole thing does explain the amounts of Tide detergent, Cascade DW products and so forth one sees on fleaPay and other places.

About a week ago, my partner and I went to our local Wally World one evening to pick up a few things. Normally, the Wal-Mart greeter is almost near the shopping carts where she greets you and/or checks and labeles any items you are returning. However I have been noticing that the greeters are now standing a good distance back, almost in the cosmetics. I then come up from the men's clothing area and I see a strange man. Very goofy fellow that was a skin head,with an unkempt beard and hair. Well, just as we walked through the exit doors to get to our car, this man had apparently caught some shoplifters (2 girls), had their hands cuffed and assisting the police in putting these girls into a police car. So, if you see someone in Wally World with a strange look (I mean really strange) , they just might be store detectives.

Couldn't happen to a better brand!! I've been off Tide for sometime now. Not that for the same reason as him, but because they can't seem to let well enough alone. They keep reformulating everything, and the price is rediculous!!. Why pay that price when you can get just as good of cleaning from products that are half the price. My current favorites are Arm & Hammer and Up & Up. I'm finding they clean just as good as Tide and cost half of Tide.

Used Tide Forever!!
I do know some people are allergic to TIDE,but I wonder also if they overload their machine.Ive used it since 72,when I got my first frogeye.The soap business would go broke with me.I dont use fabric softeners,dryer sheets etc.I only thing Ive ever experienced is suds lock once in a great while,in a hurry put too much soap in the machine.I would think if you keep your house clean and not wear your clothes too often without washing them maybe folks wouldnt need all of the other things.I was a lineman and installer for Verizon for years and talk about coming home dirty.I never wore the same clothes 2 days in a row,they always came out clean,but I do wash in hot water and rinse in cold. Also I usually fill the machine add soap let it agitate for a few seconds then add clothes. Thanks Bobby

If it is anything like the price of premium brand detergent in the UK, it is a valuble commodity! If you can swipe a pallet load of this stuff and bang it out via Ebay or even at a car boot sale, you would be making some profit!

This morning I was sitting in the waiting room at the doctors office,took a friends mother.They had a big news article on these thefts.Cvc and other pharmacy type stores are putting Tide and other detergents behind the counters.I guess people will do anything to make a buck.When I was 15 I worked at the A&P till I got out of high school.We actually had cigaretts out on the aisles for sale,most of you probably dont remember that nor when there were no security people in stores.I look back now what a different time.Maybe we should start stocking up on things we really use.The prices will start going up now on all detergents.Thanks Bobby

I would have never thought this possible and am not sure what to make of it. Some of the details seem a bit far fetched. I hope no one breaks into my house for the stash of Tide (4 Large jugs) and Cascade. Who knows next they might knock off an Ecolab warehouse for some really high powered and high priced detergents.

Desparte Times Call For Desparate Measures
Be it for personal consumption or resale for needed cash one isn't surprised persons are turning to TOL consumer goods for theft. Seems like almost every other day one sees someone bolting from local stores holding stolen goods with or without security in hot persuit.
You also have a growing trend of persons who think they *deserve* something regardless of their current financial situation. Buying a MOL or even BOL detergent after years of being an "upscale" shopper is just too much for these persons to bear.
It's really silly in the long run. To have one's name blackened and a criminal record over laundry detergent.

Perhaps this is another symptom of how hard times really are for many. Regardless of what the news forces would have us believe, there are still many many people who are unemployed, underemployed and just plain down and out. Our economy simply is still in bad shape. Couple that with an aging workforce that seems to be bearing the brunt of this ( I know of several people in their 50's who were "downsized" but their jobs unfilled for 6 months or so, titles massaged and filled with "30 somethings") and people will do desperate things.

Having known the "criminal element" working as a bartender in a very "sensitive" area. This is my take. The grab and run criminal wants a quick out and quick turn around. They don't want to think too much. And I have found they tend to be of the lazy monkey see monkey do mentality. So right now its obvious there is a market for TIDE at any price below store so its a golden opportunity for these guys/gals!
Remember back when car jacking was all the rage?? Now its passe, now its Tide.

The evening 10 PM local news and Leno mentioned this last night. Jay said something like "if you're stealing Tide detergent, would this be considered a white collar crime?"
