Here's a very in-depth interview of White, from 1997. Amazing how her sitcom in the 1940s was the forerunner of I Love Lucy:

~I love Betty White, but not the dress she is wearing.

EEEEK there are gays here, aren't there?

STR8 Men "Let's knock her down and have our way with her."
Gay men: "Let's knock her down and fix her hair, her nails her makeup, her Brazilian wax and her ouftit!

LOL. Sorry I coudln't help my little-ole self!

ROFLMAO!

I love Betty White too

Its just amazing that at 88 she is still working, although she herself claims to be a workaholic. In many ways a gal ahead of her time in that she forged a career at a time when the expectation for women was motherhood and family. Indeed she says that her second marriage failed as her husband could not accept her having a career, even when he didn't. Well thats what she says anyway.
One point though - Life With Elizabeth was not 1940s but 1950s and it is debatable whether or not that was a forerunner of I Love Lucy or not - its earliest incarnation was a part of a evening variety show she did with Al Jarvis which would have been 1950 - as a free standing show 1951 or more likely 1952. Its hard to compare as the two as the production of I Love Lucy was far more advanced than that of Life With Elizabeth, where they worked with one camera only, and had to do take after take of each scene from different angles.
Its worth looking out for White's mid 1990s bio "Here We Go Again" - its a good and interesting read. And she really DOES seem to be a good person too :)

Thank you so much for posting this. I don't like watching awards shows anymore, it just takes too much time and how nice to have somebody record what had to have been the best moment out of this one. I love Betty White and I hope they can convince her to host SNL. That will be a show for the books!
