I saw some of the first episodes (1962, I think) of the Beverly Hillbillies the other day.

What is the brand of dishwasher in their mansion? I couldn't quite recognize it. It has a styling somewhat reminiscent of the Kenmore of the late sixties/early seventies.

By that same token, any of you know what brand the dishwasher was in the orignaml Walt Disney Parent Trap movie (1961)? They have a Tappan Fabulous 400 range in the movie so I am assuming it was a Tappan dishwasher also, but maybe not.

It's the Preway gas dw. The whole kitchen was furnished by the Gas Equipment Manufacturers Group which did several sitcom kitchens in the late 50s-early 60s. Donna Reed's kitchen was one such case. She had the 1958 TOL WP washer and dryer which were replaced by that OK&M gas combo, the one that did not spin but had a 100,000 BTU burner for drying. That is comparable to the input of a good sized furnace back in those days.

100K  ?

Damn Jethro.

Today one would use 100,000 BTU to heat a 3000 Sq. Ft. two story house, well insulated.  I know,  I had that in a house I built.  2x6 walls, three stories, 5 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms. .... blah bah de BLAH.   you get the suburban idea.

one furnace.

Those dryers must have be a fire hazzard.

Kitchen on B.H. (& will we get Other Sit-Coms????)

The thing w/ the Bev' Hillbillies kitchen was there was a four-burner cook top on the island, & I think against the wall...

One of the first episodes had Granny using a wall oven & being disappointed that she could NOT burn wood in it; it was a double-oven gas... ("It ain't got no firebox, it ain't got no flue...," etc., Granny complains, as the smoke comes billowing out of it!)

I remember seeing that dishwasher, now & think a kitchen like that might have needed two (there are two Frigidaire/GM fridges, as well, of which I remember the fridge & freezer opening both at once, & mimicking that w/ a fridge at work once, as well as my parents' Side X Side, sometimes, too!)...

Think the washer was a push-button Maytag, while the dryer had a dial (& possibly was the one that dried only electronically; while someone here would have personally made those apps' in reverse: The washer would have the buttons for Water Temp., Water Level, Speed & get the all-button dryer...)

Westy oval window siting in "The China Syndrome"

Not to change topic,  I spotted an oval window westy in the garage of  Jack Lemmon (Jack Adell) in the movie ("China Syndrome").  these appliances , there all long just show up, when ones mind is at ease and maybe on days when our peripheral vision is better than others.  Ms Jodie Foster also has a westy in "Panic Room"  , alr

Wow. Thanks for the info! I knew some of you would have the answers.

From a distance that range, in Parent Trap, looked somewhat like a Tappan. I can see now that it isn't.

How in the world would a gas dishwasher work?? I take it that maybe the gas was just there to heat the water and dry the dishes. Any of you have close up pictures of that dishwasher and the interior of it, that you could share?

100,000 BTUs

You have to remember that it started drying fabrics that were dripping wet. Yes, it was a high heat input, but temperatures inside the drum would be controlled by operating and safety thermostats and it no doubt had a hell of a blower. You do have to wonder about the effects on surrounding surfaces. The 33" wide Kenmore gas combos had a burner cone right near the floor and I remember hearing from friends that when the old combo was hauled out, the floor under the burner was charred. The heat from that burner so near the porcelain tank eventually damaged the porcelain causing it to rust out & leak.

I saw the China Syndrome was just on cable a couple times this month and noticed the washer & dryer in the garage (Jack Lemmon's character) I thought it looked like a Whirlpool round window in the dryer. The cabinets and panel were reminiscent of the mid-60's Whirlpools, to me. There were only a couple of fleeting shots of him pulling out of the garage so it was hard to see. Now I'll have to see if it's available "On Demand" and see if I can pause it...

Ahhh, what we'll do for a quick appliance thrill :-)

I have a lot of early episodes on the Beverly Hillbillies and I don't think those tandem refrigerators are Frigidaire. They look like gas Whirlpools, manufactured for a brief period after the company acquired Servel. Maybe I'm mistaken. I always thought it was strange that the Maytag washer and gas dryer did not match. That information concerning the Gas Equipment Manufacturers Group is very interesting.

BH Kitchen appliances

The refrigerators were Gas WPs, WP continued to build and sell and improve gas Refs through the mid 1960s, these were completely frost free and had the Servel invented Ice Makers. WP was the only company to my knowledge that ever built a gas ref that was completely frost free including a zero degree freezer.

There were two gas Preway single wall ovens with broilers below and two Preway gas cook-tops as well as the a fore mentioned Preway designed and built Gas heated DW. I have a Preway gas DW in the Collection, it is a very unique machine in many ways, as Tom mentioned it has been discussed on this site numerous times. I intend to install it in my outdoor Miracle all Gas Kitchen, along with my Caloric Gas convection-microwave-self cleaning oven range which has been in use out there for the last ten years.

The MT washer and dryer were a matched set at the time as MT didn't have the push button DG750 when the A900 washer first appeared in the MT lineup. The dryer they used would have been the Electronic dry model, and this was the only MT HOH electronic dryer that ALSO had timed dry cycles, I don't think I ever saw one that worked properly, does anyone on this site have a DE701 or DG701 that works properly and both the timed and electronic cycles?

The French Chef

Along these same lines...
What was the brand of the two in-wall ovens that Julia Child used in the French Chef series circa about 1970 ?
These were the black and silver ones. If I recall they had warming drawers underneath them as well.
