Bewitched

I am sitting here watching some recorded episodes of "Bewitched". I am wondering, after they remodeled Samantha's kitchen, why were all of the appliances no longer Frigidaire? I see that "Derwood" continued to drive a Chevrolet but they no longer used GM Frigidaire appliances. Any ideas?

Chevrolet was a major sponsor of Bewitched and though part of General Motors it didn't follow *everything* had to be GM.

After a fire destroyed much of the original Bewitched kitchen area and it was decided to use the opportunity to make changes when things were rebuilt. The range and oven needed to be moved and that likely prompted a change in choice of appliances.

The aforementioned fire occurred between seasons six and seven. IIRC Frigidaire ended production of the Flair line in the early 1970's. That may have played a role in Bewitched going with other choices for range and oven.

Thanks. I assumed the topic had been discussed before, but I never saw it. Very interesting about the fire. I had no idea about that.

In the early episodes of the first season Samantha had a Maytag washer then it was switched to a Frigidaire

Did some limited reading about those Flair ranges

Was there some sort of some sort of safety issue that in whole or part tipped GM's hand in ceasing production? Something to do with the design especially the sliding burner drawer.

In a busy household with children quite frankly that pull out range drawer wouldn't be my first choice. Too many possibilities for bumping into things especially since children's heads would be about the same level.
