Did anyone else see this product on Shark Tank about 6 weeks ago? It looked so cool and with my fascination with gadgets I just had to have one so I ordered it even though it is quite expensive at $129 USD. I just got an email tonight indicating that it is finally going to start shipping and I should have it before Christmas. I'm anxious to try it out. I like that it can be kept in the fridge even with it having rechargeable batteries.

Oh Boy...

I'll put that next to all my Olive oil decanters in the Pantry. Along side of my Sous Vide equipment and the Bread Making Machine. LOL

Just me... but I'd rather spend the money on Butter

Yes that's a really neat gadget.  But you can buy A LOT of butter for what one costs.

Alton Brown would call this a "uni-tasker", and that's something I now try to avoid when purchasing kitchen tools.

An ounce of pretentious...

What's the diacritical mark over the "E" mean? Is it supposed to be pronounced "B-M"?

I have to admit, as a pastry chef, I can think of lots of uses for this thing, but I've found you can spray butter out of a standard plastic spray bottle with just a few steps. I agree that it's way overpriced.

I don`t get exactly why there would be a requirement to spray butter (or oil) in the first place.
I remember a product comparable to Pam existed here as well, but only to vanish from shelves quickly after it appeared.

I mean when I recognize I`m getting too fat I can either upsize my pants or eat less for a while until I fit in my old pants again. I don`t think those sprays would make a big difference for me.
Maybe for convenience, but still... no thanks I`ll stick to my old faithful butter knifes and maybe a silicone brush.

Personally, I can't imagine spending the money for such a thing. My hand-pumped olive-oil sprayer has been awfully useful though, so maybe I shouldn't pass judgment so quickly.

Of course you can get almost everything imported over the internet, those spray cans are not to be found on shelves of German supermarket chains anymore for a long time, be it canola, olive or whatever. Never heard about silicone oil as a cooking oil. Might be an undesirable additive, I don`t know.

I found the Pam-type oil sprays terribly messy compared to a brush or paper towel for applying a thin coat of oil or butter to a baking pan or whatever. If you didn`t aim it carefully the countertop and kitchen floor got oiled, too.

Anyway my point was I don`t understand what a butter sprayer might be good for. Calories savings ?

@ Original poster: It wasn`t my intention to put down your purchase, hope my posts didn`t sound too negative. Have fun with your new butter sprayer!
It`s just when you think you have seen everything...

How different the perspectives of people can be!

Goodness, better tell that to the folks selling fresh product in Puchheim. Was just talking to an Aunt there about it a few weeks ago. She bakes a lot this time of year. Sigh, only time of year I really, really miss home. And, yes, we've used silicone oil as an additive to many things (powdered sugar) in Germany for a long, long time. So long that Dr. Oetker warns about it for some baking products in their 1980s cookbooks.

E-Nummer: 900. Name: Dimethylpolysiloxan. Substanzgruppe: Schaumverhüter. Vorkommen: Wird künstlich hergestellt.

As to the spray cans making a mess, well, yes it really can. Still doesn't change the fact that it is really useful and (to my mind) much preferable to silicone oil or PTFE.

Keven, I don`t think we`re on the same page right now.
I said I prefer a silicone brush to a messy spray can. I`m not sure why we`re discussing silicone oil in food now. And yes I am aware it is a legal food additive e.g. as a defoamer for commercially prepared jams and jellys even in the EU.

And you don`t have to post in German when responding to me, I`m not an idiot and besides it`s not fair to others who might want to follow our conversation.

Α silly question

When it says 95 degrees,it means Celsius or Fahrenheit?I supposed it was Fahrenheit because it is an american product, but 95 ºF is only 35 ºC, and I don't think that butter melts at that temperature.

Stefan,

I meant no offence. It's not unusual here for those of us who write more than one language to occasionally toss something off like that.

It's not an insult.

And yes, we're obviously at cross purposes on this one.

Look at it this way: I'm stuck in this country, you're home in a sane land.
