Big Door GE Dryer

In June I'm going to be getting a Big Door GE Dryer, along with the 67 Rollermatic that I bought back in early March. The previous owners of the dryer had the front propped up on a block giving it a slight incline in order to rid of a "knocking sound".

I'm trying to pull together some info about the dryer and a preliminary diagnosis before it arrives here so I can go into it well prepared.

Can anyone here help me diagnose, or further enlighten me about these dryers?

I have one very similar to yours and it does "knock" rhythmically while it dries. i attributed the knocking to age, but it may have something to do with how well balanced and/or leveled the machine is. I have the sanitize cycle as well but I wish I had that "MINI LOAD" feature; the drum is so large that small loads don't register well on the sensor which, on my model, is hung from the door baffle. On later models the sensor was mounted underneath the lint filter as in standard GE FF dryers.

I love my machine; it is my daily driver because it is so fast. Lint does pile up around the door baffle but that isn't a big deal to me, I just clean it regularly as you're supposed to. I think the only design flaw that bothers me is that the door is mounted too low to clear a standard laundry basket. As CU would have said, a minor inconvenience, but it's worth it to have a drum that is huge in diameter, not just in depth. The clothes have to fall so far, comparatively that they are exposed to more of the air flow and dry quicker. I don't sense that the dryer gets much hotter than a standard machine and many people on this site have told me that the Big Boy GE dryers used the same capacity blowers as the standard ones. You do need to be more careful about removing lint after every load as the lint filter isn't removable and lint will build up in and around the blower assembly if you're not careful.
