I was on Ebay today and came across this old Finish ad.

Both Finish and Electrasol were made by Economics Laboratories. Were there any formula differences between the two or were they basically the same stuff? From what I remember, they were both white powders with a mild chlorine fragrance.

That's a GE PotScrubber with adjustable top rack and the separate wash  arm under the top rack.  No wonder loads get clean.  It's a PotScrubber from back then!!!

My family used both and there were differences. IIRC Electrasol cost a bit more and was more robust with cleaning. Finish was supposed to contain anti spotting ingredients.

Personally I couldn't tell too much of a difference.

Finish...

Had more Phosphate, and Sodium Carbonate as a Builder, so, it was designed for harder water.

Electrasol on the other hand, had less Phosphate, but IRRC, more Chlorine in it's formula.

Back then both Finish and Electrosol

Were made by Ecolab.  I would imagine they were both heavily phosphated and chlorinated.  Similar to the commercial dishmachine detergent powders they were making at the time.  Ecolab formula Finish is still made for institutional use.  It is commonly used in undercounter and door type high temp dishmachines which do not use a solid or liquid chemical feed.
