I am working on a biplane as a test of a concept to make half scale (give or take) openwheel racers and airplanes from 18" diameter tubes. Here is one of my grandsons indicating his approval of the design. The link below will take y'all to a slideshow of 'work in progress'. I hope to paint it within the week.

Biplane -- vac component

...I used part of an old fan for the engine cowling and here you see I used the top of an old GE vac to close the tail section.

Very cool indeedy. The adorable tyke must be in his glory!

Scarily I recognize the fan housing that is the propeller and the tail-end that is a vacuum cleaner from my grandparents' possessions!

Thanks for posting this!

awesome

as a former kid who was in love with aircraft and the father of a son who was too I must say YOu are THE MAN!!!(or in this case, the GRANDPAW)

both those things are cool. Keep busy, and creative, its soooo important. Its even more important than what youre doing for the tykes but its beautiful added bonus what they are getting from it too

My sister who is a CNA says that in her nursing home the old guys that kept themselves busy are the ones who are running the halls chasing nurses and old ladies and the guys that found thier esay chair and retirement as a means to sit still for 20 to 30 years are the ones seat belted into thier wheelchairs.

oh hey did you think we here at AW didnt notice that vintage 1940 art deco building your models are in, care to tell us more about that?

Again thanks for sharing. I love your projects.

Calvin's first flight

Okay, you gotta check this out. My grandson flew the biplane over the Home Depot parking lot.

Mark, that was so fun!! Not sure how you ever filmed that but it will be something you grandson will always enjoy seeing over the years.

Green Screen

Terry, I used a green screen to film Calvin at my office. I need a screen twice as big because it was all I could do to keep it in the frame. With a larger screen, I could rotate the camera and do loops. Then, on the way home, I needed to stop at Home Depot, so I filmed some sky. I sat in front of the TV at home with my laptop on my lap (hence the name) and captured the .avi segments into my editor (Studio 11). I used "picture in picture" and "chroma-key" to disappear the screen and overlay. I am not a movie maker, but do get a kick out of some of the bells and whistles.

Loved the loops and loved how Calvin started looping or wigg

How lucky they are to have such a mega-talented Gramps and how fortunate we are that you stayed with us. Thank you Rockerwarrior man.

PS: Hope to fly before I die and would love to test pilot one of your creations. ;'D

Mark, all I can say is that you sure did a great job! I would have loved to have heard your grandson when he saw it.
