While this isn't related to appliances at all, they are, however, part of the story.

This afternoon I had to drop of a television that I picked up off Craigslist before heading out to complete the other to do's for the afternoon. I went down in the basement to snap some photos for an upcoming thread on the Imperial board, and all of a sudden I heard a chirping noise. It didn't sound like it was outside, but in fact it sounded like a bird in the chimney clean-out. The chirps sounded like that of a young bird, and it got louder as I talked next to the clean-out door. They really were a cry for help. Unfortunately I really didn't want to deal with fishing a bird out so I decided to leave it there (okay, I was chicken).

After taking care of the to do's I couldn't get the little bird chirping out of my mind. I really felt that karma would kick my ass if I didn't do something about it. So I went back to the house and opened the door to find this sad little guy in the back corner of the clean-out. He seemed hurt - and he would be after falling several feet down the chimney. After gauging his size I grabbed him out and took him out back by the garage. I'm not sure that he'll make it, but I felt better that I got him out instead of leaving him there for a certain death.

No real point to the story - but thought he was a cute little sucker!

Ben, this doesn't surprise me one bit, you are such a great guy!! I too am a firm believer in Karma!! Terry

At least it wasn't a blue jay! One time I rescued a baby blue jay that had fallen out of its nest on my back porch. Mommy Blue Jay was not too pleased with me. She dive-bombed and hit my on the head.

Fred - ouch! I hear they are a little protective ;-)

Cory - I'm heading up there tomorrow to scope it out; as well as inspect the tuck pointing that may be needed (doesn't look good from the ground).

Isn't that chick a bit young for you?

The oil man told me as a kid that birds stand on the chmney for warmth, then when the boiler furnace switches "on" the fumes cause them to pass-out and fall in.

Good for you and your rescue!

I would have done the same thing. I found either a toad or frog in our basement, and I didn't want the cats or dogs harming it so I picked it up with a wash cloth and took it back outside.

Good "SAVE"! You may want to call native animal rescue or your local animal control. Sometimes they will take them in and give it food and care it needs to survive.

Ben that bird needs to be

fed and cared for, else it will perish. If you can't find the nest it came from to try and put it back, call your local bird
rescue. They will have somebody that will foster it.
Depending on what kind of bird it is, food requirements may be
different. My Brother saved a Stellar Jay by feeding it ground
hard boiled egg yolks and corn meal mixed with water. My parents took over and fed it Fancy Feast Cat food and grub worms. It was a riot of a bird. It would come when they called
and just get all crazy about being fed. The bird you rescued
looks old enough to survive if you provide food , unless of course it was knocked from the nest on purpose by one of the parents because they sensed it was sickly. It might be rejected by the parents if you return it to its original nest.
If you have time to take care of it and it survives it will
follow you around like a dog or cat.
