So the Blackstone solid tub machine seems to have had a transmission mounted under the tub like the old Norge transmissions? Is that correct? I confess that I have not ever actually seen one. I noticed in the POD 2/10/2016, it said that the pump ran continuously when the machine was on. That would seem like there might have been solenoids to operate the wash and spin functions. I wonder if they held up better than the Norge washers back then.

Early Blackstone Automatics

The first and 2nd BSWs were solid tub all mechanical [ except for the electric motor ] in control, timer was in the transmission and operated by the rocking motion of the agitator gear moving back and forth.

The cool thing about these first two BS designs was they had a solid tub but the more desirable neutral drain so the washer could start spinning with a balanced load of clothing and not have the problems of fighting with the weight of all the water having to be thrown over the washers tub.

Overall there was almost no similarly to any Norge AWs but once they went to an electrical timer around 1959 they did have the transmission below the washers tub exposed to water.
